Are these ok for a street - track car?
What is your opinion? Worth the expense?

You will notice them the first time you drive. After that, you'll forget the difference. It's not dramatic.
If I were going to spring for replacements, I'd get the Wevos.

I noticed absolutely zero difference when I installed these, and I like to think that I have reasonably sensitive ass cheeks. What are they, a stiffer grade of rubber? Beats the hell out of me.

If this is what Pelican Part sells as "sport mounts", I have them: They are a later Porsche part, stock mount, I think 964. They are definitely for a street car, not sole track car. They are not to be mixed up with solid mounts which will transfer noise and vibration to the point that you can hear every one of your gears sing.
I like mine and they definitely helped throttle response and shifting. However, keep in mind that the sport mounts replaced my completely worn stock mounts dating back to 1981. I think this is a no brainer, even on a solely street driven car. Hope this helps. George |

My sport mounts (=cabriolet mounts) transmit a tiny bit more of a high-frequency vibration into the tub, barely noticeable. The back end feels a bit more snug as does the shifting and the throttle. Very small difference but definitely on the positive side. If I was going to do it again I'd probably go with the new Wevos.

I've got 2 of them sitting in my toolbox and was thinking of putting in this weekend. What's the best location if I'm starting with 2 of them? Tranny or motor, it's hard for me to tell if these were the original '77's or were the '84's that came with the 3.2. TIA

Motor location first....they're more widely spaced there and provide the best "location" restraint to help improve shift action ( less "walking-around" by the motor).

I've got all 4 sport mounts on my '86 Carrera and really couldn't tell a difference between them and the old mounts on my car.

I installed both the trans and motor mounts at the same time and there was a big dif. in shifting compared to my org. 72 mounts.

Sport motor mounts are probably the sweetest upgrade I've made to my car, for any price. For the relatively low cost, the sweetness/cost ratio is off the charts. My car is primarily street driven. Go for it.
Edit: My stock mounts were pretty shot. I think that’s where a lot of my improvement came from. If your stock mounts are OK, you might not notice that much of a change.

I put solid mounts on the motor and sport mounts at the tranny some time ago. My stock mounts weren't too bad. I realize you're not talking solid mounts, but as a reference point the difference was noticable but not th eleast bit objectionable. A "gentleman" drove my car to asses whether he would do the same to his garage queen and he was convinced to do exactly that.
Long story short - don't be the least bit afraid of installing sport mounts, especially of you do the motor end only.

If you going through the effort, I would replace the stock ones with the WEVO units.

I may be the lone man out and give them a thumbs down for the street.
The ones on my turbo motor transmit enough vibration at idle to be noticed. I have been told though that the results you get depend heavily on the power output of the engine. This is one data point, other engine/tranny combos may show different results. From a performance point of view the thumbs go back up. Everything feels real solid back there.
