Animated Porsche engine - full size version available!!!

Ok, stand back! The technology to publish the 1000 x 792 pixel version of the animation is now implemented. The .gif file has been "super compressed" using overlay files to shrink the size from over 8 meg down to 1.5 meg, making it possible to host it on my AOL account and share it!

Here's the animation in its full size, the perfect wallpaper!

Now you can see everything without the "jaggies" from reducing the size!

Enjoy and thanks for the encouraging feedback!

So, when's the 2.7RS MFI version coming out Darryl? :D

Oh BTW, very nice job! :)

DarrylD 02-09-2005 12:44 PM

Hey Jim!

Feast your eyes on this:

The refinements I'm making to the CIS model are really part of the MFI one too.

How many people see the pulley(one with about 6 holes) on the fan go counterclockwise? My eyes will catch it clockwise sometimes, but defaults to counter.

Relax.... that's just a random hypnotic element added to camouflage the subliminal "send Darryl your PayPal password" message! :D

jorian 02-09-2005 01:17 PM

Very Cool...

Thanks for sharing with the board.

Jim Richards 02-09-2005 02:13 PM

Darryl, that MFI engine looks great! :D

randywebb 02-09-2005 02:19 PM

Just keeps getting better....

jbryant 02-09-2005 03:02 PM

This almost makes up for the grid girls thread being gone.

Thanks Darryl!!!

Awesome! My soon to be personal Porsche mechanic just learned alot about how the flat sixes work. My son (Justin 12) and I were adjusting my valves tonight and the question came up as to how all this works. Images speak louder than words.
Thanks!,
Jon

Since you're determined to turn this into a model that PAG would have made (and sold for $150)....

the fuel and air/fuel mix could be blue
the spark could be yellow
the exhaust could be red
there could be a button to turn off the colors (if they obscure other events)
there could be a button to stop the animation, and to 'bump' it along to TDC, etc.

Now all we need is a throttle so we can test out our cable modems and those REALLY fast Dell computers we all bought for internet surfing!

The animation impressed everyone at my house!

Great job! Much appreciated!

azasadny 02-09-2005 06:26 PM

Incredible!!! Thanks again!

NOH20 02-09-2005 06:31 PM

Awesome. can I get it to repeat when it's set as your wallpaper?? How would you do this?

jpahemi 02-09-2005 07:29 PM

Darryl:
That's incredible, can you make the oil pump work or show the piston squirters?
J.P.

DarrylD 02-09-2005 09:40 PM

I just couldn't take it anymore, I fixed that loose cooling fan, now it doesn't bounce around so much. The bolt holding it was not torqued to spec.

Rufblackbird 02-09-2005 11:55 PM

That looks awesome! But does the uncompressed version look better? Darryl, I sent you a PM two days ago...:)
