front strut confusion

I'm trying to figure out what to use for my front suspension on my 914 track car
Here's a couple of things I want/need...

- I need SC or 3.2 struts (3.5" brake caliper mounting)

- I'd like to run the yellow Koni dampers (because of the adjustability) instead of the Bilsteins

This would mean I should get a set of Boge or Koni struts, but since I'd also like to raise the spindles, that's only possible on the Koni struts

I tried searching PET, but I can't find ANY info there on the Koni struts...
Were those available with the 3.5" brake mounting spacing?

Also, will the yellow adj.Koni's fit a Koni strut?
Koni lists seperate stock dampers for Boge and Koni struts, but just one type of yellow adj. damper

Any input is appreciated!

cheers,

Jeroen

YOu can get Koni struts. They were found on some early (pre-73 911S) cars and also as an option on the 74-77 cars. I think they continued through the SCs but am not postive. They are available but not as common to find compared with Boge or bilstein

Koni struts were all 3.5" brake caliper spacing. But be careful you don't get the very early struts as there are no spare parts available for them.

Funny you should mention raised spindles. I just got my pair of raised spindle koni's yesterday.

I'm confused.....

I thought only the Bilsteins allowed raising spindles because this design does not have the "collar" welded above the spindle support ? ( I know, I know...Chris Bennet knows a guy.... who knows a guy ....who raises Boges spindles...but in *general* it seems to only work with Bilsteins).

There's enough room on them to raise. Mine are raised 19 mm

My Koni's are raised 18mm. They are "SO" close with my 15" wheels

You can only raise the Koni's 18-19mm. After that you're bumping up against the flare in the strut body. Now, that being said, there are other methods of raising them. I believe Racer Chris can do about anything.

Yaaa-Rooooon... I like early Koni or Bilsten complete front ends. This way you get the 19mm t-bars and thru-body sway bar mounts. Koni's are adjustable. Bilsteins are solid right out of the box.

Your choice.

From the info I got from the koni website, you can use the yellow koni sports on oe koni struts if you get a special koni gland nut.

thanks guys!
for a minute I was worried that I was looking for an impossible combination...

now all I have to figure out how much springrate the yellow Koni's can handle max.
I'll try and call Koni tomorrow to see what I can find out about that

Then I'll go shopping for a set of struts

yellow koni's on koni struts

Well after 4 months of waiting on a pair of yellow koni's to arrive from England they finaaly arrived and found that the gland nut that my koni struts came with holds the shock fine except that it sticks out. Does anybody have the specific dimensions of the special koni gland nut that koni says to use with the koni struts and koni yellows?

here's some pics of my koni strut and shock and gland nut.
