Ok, the next problem I need to fix (or have fixed) is that my accelerator pedal sticks when I mash it down -- almost everytime. It unbinds as soon as I disengage the clutch. I assume I need to rebuild the pedal assembly. (Is there an easier fix?)
I have Wayne's 101 projects book, so I have good instructions. My question to all of you is, how difficult is this project? I have almost no mechanical experience, though I think I have good mechanical aptitude.

This was one of my first projects.
Pretty easy, just requires a bit of logic, time, and a clean workspace. You can take digital pics as you disassemble to help remind yourself how it all goes back. If you hit a wall, we can walk you through it here! ![]() Oh, the only PITA for me was crawling under there and working...

There is a good chance that a rebuild will fix the sticking accelerator. I had the same problem. The plastic bushings deteriorate and this causes lateral slop in the linkage which causes binding.

Overall, the project is very easy -- the only hassle is putting the clutch spring back on.

I think this might be something ill have on the summer project list, all you need is that like $20 kit of bushings right?

my cluster rebuild was not difficult, though i went through many drill bits in the process of removing the roll pin. the original, plastic bushings were fine, but i wanted to por-15 the assembly and replace the acc. pedal. the 930 clutch spring is much easier to remove. it did take me longer than expected, probably because i cleaned the assembly with a dremel. wayne's instructions are right on.

Before you pull everything out though, just pull the carpet back and remove the floor board. Make sure that the little accelerator bell crank is not catching on the center tunnel sheet metal. I've seen this a couple of times. This happened to my brother's 911. He mashed the gas pedal, and it didn't come back. Very scary! Also in my 69 911, a PO trimmed the sheet metal back in this area. It seams that the bell crank has a tendency to bend in toward the tunnel.

strother, i forgot to mention, i believe your acc. pedal problems will be solved with the rebuild, but there may be a small chance that your clutch cable is interfering with the acc. cable (or vice versa) beyond the pedal cluster. when you do the rebuild and you disconnect the acc. cable, do you best to check it out, tight working area, but you may be able to feel the two cables intertwined. only be a possibility if you, a mechanic or a PO performed some recent clutch or throttle linkage work. i believe wayne alludes to this point in his instructions.

strother, the roll pin is alot easier if you have the correct sized punch. you can get a variety pack at home depot that will cover most of your needs. the project is cake.
you accelerator may also be hanging up down the line a bit. maybe the bushings at the pin that sticks out from your tranny is hanging?

Good advice to check the linkage at the tranny. My SC started sticking and this turned out to be the problem. Still a good idea to do the cluster rebuild. Take your time and it's not too difficult.

Rebuilding pedal assembly - what's your experience?
search. You may have to destroy it but it is not treaded. Get the right size punch and put the cluster in a vice. It won't come out easy.
