Backdated "Bastard" Progress Report
I'm closing on a year since I started the backdate on my '76 (or has it been that long
![]() This is some of the small welding work to close the holes in the door. ![]() I had some of the sheet metal from the flare work, so I figured why not use the native stuff. Others have used washers or other metal. The hole saws I had made cut outs that fit perfectly. ![]() I used a magnet to hold the cut outs in place and tack welded them in before finishing off the seam slowly and bit by bit to prevent too much warping. ![]() A rough grinding job and then a little work with the DA sander and some cold galvanizing and the door is read for the next stage (after the tub gets blasted all the metal work will get a thin filler and lots of sanding). ![]() ![]() Last edited by MotoSook; 02-13-2005 at 09:09 PM.. |

I had the fenders sandblasted to find all the rust spots, and this was the only one. The fenders have been repaired before. One had an entire front section welded in. This was a hole near a spot where they had leaded the the fender at one point.
I cut a piece of sheet metal (same metal from the flares) to shape and the welding fun started. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Both fenders now ready for primer! ![]() Last edited by MotoSook; 02-13-2005 at 09:07 PM.. |
