Conspiracy against Loren? Truly, it's no big deal to me. I set aside his perceived rudeness and suss out his advice, however large to small his rude-to-advice ratio is.

ischmitz 02-15-2005 09:24 AM

One of the reasons he doesn't get banned might be that he does business with PP.

I always had good laughs when things got really nasty. Loren sure is one of the more predictable posters here. It doesn't take much to wind him up. I remember posts with name-calling and f-words. Unbelievably funny...

"I for one have often appreciated Loren's knowledge of electronics and how he recommends that folks send parts, i.e. cruise control modules, to Pelican for repairs. I would miss his inputs to the BBS." quote

Does anyone know which company Pelican uses for this service?

Just curious. :)

I have seen him bash people before many times, but I have also seen him offer good advice. Take everything you read with a grain of salt and you will be okay.

That's a trick question, hm..... I'll take the blue pill SmileWavy

I'd agree with Jeff - Whatever you want to say about his manner, he's wicked smaht. It'd be a shame to lose him. Seems to make more sense to grow a thicker skin about stuff. No offense to anyone intended.

Jeff Alton 02-15-2005 09:38 AM

Actually that was a quote from SC-targa. (see a couple of posts prior) I did my best but I am the villiage idiot when it comes to computers and was unable to make a proper qoute on my post. Someday I will learn how.

Loren has some strong opinions and knows some beneficial information. Often he shares valuable information. Unfortunately, he lacks tactful presentation. On occassional his comments have tended towards hurtful towards people on this list. Not sure of the motivation, but it is unacceptable.

Hopefully, the criticism is viewed as constructive.

Good point - however Loren isn't the sole source of this information in the universe. It would be nice if he could dispense his apparently infinite wisdom without the vitriol, but he can't. I still think he needs to be banned.

LOL! Is there such a thing as sodium poisoning? :D

FenderGuy 02-15-2005 10:26 AM

They should ban me for not getting a Porsche yet..
I Should get banned for almost getting a hacked up 911 with a V-8 in it.
I should get banned for not being a purist.
I should get banned for complaining how a company did some fishy things to my PPI.
So people have said about me...
Who cares

jester911 02-15-2005 10:27 AM

I think there is a lesson here that most of us learned in grade
school and maybe some of us forgot.

Remember the kids in school who would pick on you relentlessly calling you names etc. The more you got mad and tried to fight it the more the kid would pick.

As soon as you you started laughing about it and quit giving them attention it would disarm them.

I think your are giving this guy the attention he is looking for.Why else would he post that stuff.

Just my little .02

Wavey 02-15-2005 10:32 AM

Great analogy, except that hasn't worked here. You'd think Loren would have learned a lesson by now. But he's more like the kid who gets madder when you laugh at him.

randywebb 02-15-2005 10:33 AM

Loren's informative posts have declined and his level of stridency has increased to the point of numerous personal attacks. Why, I don't know. Perhaps he has had some negative events in his personal life. But the issue of whether someone can turn this bbs into an unpelasant place to be is a real one. If the most knowldegeable and prolific posters lose interest, then the bbs is just a bunch of yakyak.

I would like to see a moderator discuss this with him, find out what if anything is going on, and _consider_ a temporary ban. I'll leave it up to the moderator(s) judgement as to whether to do a ban, but I think it ought to be considered.

jester911 02-15-2005 10:40 AM

I here ya Wavey and believe me I don't condone it but the other side of it is we shouldn't take ourselves quite so seriously.
Some of those kids didn't go away but the change in my attitude helped me .
That is what those kids in grade school taught me:D

Besides that he can get as mad as he wants but his keyboard can only hurt you if you let it.

Richard-Dublin 02-15-2005 10:54 AM

A couple of years ago PCGB (Porsche Club of Great Britain) banned a particular person from their forum for expressing opinions that offended some people - this led to a lot of bad feeling and I believe quite a few people not renewing thier membership of the club (myself included). I believe that banning a contributor has to be an absolute "last resort". Somebody much more elequant then me said something like "I may not agree with his opinions but I'll fight for his right to express them!"

wholberg 02-15-2005 10:58 AM

I have read many, many of Loren's posts in the archives and find his recent vitriolic attacks on Wavey and a few others to be out of character. They also seem to have been made in a very short period of time. Clearly, something has changed recently and none of us know what it is. I have said things while on morphine (recovering from knee surgery) that apalled me and that I had no memory of. Without all the facts, I am reluctant to jump quickly to judgement and support a ban on participation, although I might feel differently if I was the target of such an attack.

I favor the moderators asking Loren to "attack the issue not the person" in his posts. If he fails to comply, then perhaps banning is the solution. I may appreciate the knowledge and experience Loren brings to some technical issues, but I do not think that derisive taunts are appropriate.

And just to clarify some comments from above, this is not a PUBLIC board. It is a privately held and moderated site, and the owners of Pelican have every right to control its content. I personally hope that they excerise adequate control to keep the content of the BBS focused.

One last thing, is it posible that deleting certain posts implies regret of the content?

Wavey 02-15-2005 11:01 AM

Lovely sentiment, Jerry, thanks. I still think he should be banned.

And Richard, opinions are great, continued personal attacks shouldn't be allowed.

Wholberg - it's not attacks on me that I care about, in fact they give me the opportunity to have some fun with him. But yesterday he stalked Por_sha911 and attacked him on 5 separate threads! That's completely out of bounds.

Almost always. Rarely is it for mistaken information.
