Being banned happens in OT.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/206569-have-you-ever-wondered-how-close-youve-come-forum.html But I've never seen it happen here in Tech. There was a guy named Big Painta who used to post on the board. Some of what he said makes Loren look like an alter boy. |
I vote for keeping Loren aboard...and I too, wonder if somebody lifted his posting name somehow. John Walker, myself, Warren, and others can remember being victimized this way...a particular bit of ugliness.

As I have weaved my way thru the" homeschooling" of mechanical knowledge, I have found that usually the best mechanics and wealth of information come from the crotchety guys who won't tolerate substandard workmanship or advice. I'd rather put up with the bad attitude and a nice running car than practicing "hit and miss" with a guy blowing smoke up my a**. Sometimes people just don't like to sugarcoat it. As long as the technical stuff's right, play ball!!
|
I say keep Loren too. For those that don't like Loren, add him to your ignore list. Then you never have to see a post he makes again. Why get all worked up?

I didn't realize how much flak I'd take for this.
I want to explain something: randywebb, myself, and Adam Chaplin commented on a post lorenfb made in another thread. he then deleted the post. this was frustrating since he had personally attacked several members in the last few days (I was not one of them, however), with no apparent provocation. Not wanting to sully Wavey's partwerks thread, I started a new one with a record of what lorenfb had said, since he was clearly willing to delete his comments. If I had known it would stay near the top of the tech forum for a full day, I wouldn't have done it. I probably would have just waited to see if the attacks got worse. I also want to note that I never said anything about banning lorenfb. lorenfb's actions should be looked at if he continues this pattern, but I have never said a darn thing about banning. I also never said that loren's past posts were not helpful. 911mot said that it sounds like I have a chip on my shoulder. Actually, lorenfb and I have never so much as had an argument on this board, or anywhere else. I value this community very much, and personal attacks (not based on technical matters at all) are not what makes this board great IMHO. My apologies if I have wasted your time. I very much value this resource and many of you have been very helpful to me. This community is wonderful! |
That was intended as a joke...... 'chip' on your shoulder geddit :)
Guess thats our dry British humour for you |
Ah shoot mot, that was very funny! I guess I didn't take so much flak after all.

I sent Loren an email earlier today trying to open up some communication and head this off before it becomes a bigger problem. If you do a search on Loren's posts, you'll see a lot of very useful contributions he makes. He's an expert in his field. Then, there's also some stuff (mostly confined to the 911 tech section) that's a lot less useful. Hopefully, we'll get this sorted out without having to take any drastic steps. |
Having been the object of loren's rudeness on a couple of occasions, I'm certainly not going to make excuses for him. There is no excuse for a lot of his comments, but you have to admit it is pretty funny that he gets so worked up over things like performance chips. Posting the word "Wong" is like waving a red cape in front of him. But let's remember that one of the things that makes this board interesting and great is the personalities that come through the posts. There are a lot of people on this board I would like to meet--most to say "great to meet you" and a few to say "who the hell do you think you are?" I wouldn't browse this thread if it was all dry, technical commentary, and it's safe to say most of the people posting on this thread wouldn't either. If you start policing etiquette, it does get to be a slippery slope, and a lot of the fun and "community" of this board would be lost. IMHO, unless somebody is damaging the board's image with foul language or using the board to rip people off, I think banning does more harm than good. I apologize in advance if this sounds patronizing, but I think maybe some people should get thicker skins or switch to browsing the ballet forums. And if it does sound patronizing, it's probably because I'm old enough to be your father.

Thanks Jack. I agree re his informative posts.

I don’t know is this is applicable here.
In the past few years I have been prescribed d**m drugs that have respectively made me angry, morose, aggressive, lethargic, euphoric, and more. I work hard to take as little meds as possible consistent with good medical practice. I research everything – I am a regular at the University of Colorado Medical Library. I do know that I really appreciate the civility of everyone on this forum. This is a fun TECHNICAL forum. For over a year I lurked on many forums before I chose this Pelican. Yes, occasionally I will make a subtle rye comment or engage in friendly banter. There are other places (that I won’t go) for people who want to make fools of themselves. Best, Grady |
Andy, I want to apologize if I've hijacked your thread. Not my intention. I guess Loren's been a burr under my saddle for a long time and I've just had it with him. His multiple attacks on Por_sha911 yesterday were the last straw for me. I'll be happy to take any flak resulting from my posts. Again, please accept my apology.
All that being said, I still think he should be banned. He's proven that he can not behave in a gentlemanly fashion, and I don't thinks that's too much to expect. And believe me, I've got very thick skin. But I don't care how much useful information a guy has, that doesn't mean I have to accept his ********* attitude. |

Enough is enough
I suspect that Loren has a grudge against me due to the fact that whenever he chimes in on the "Chip Wars" I ask him the same question: "Do you sell or have you ever sold performance chips for Porsches?" He has never given a direct reply to affirm or deny that he has. I believe that he is mad at me because I have questioned his impartiality to the chip debate and it leaves him with no defense except to leave.
I have to ask if it is right for someone to constantly bash me every time I post a question or comment. I've just ignored it but it seems like he's really on my case lately. Does Pelican have any standard of fairness on this issue or is it open sewer season for anyone who wants to go nuts? We all give and receive good natured ribbing but isn't this going too far? |
Perhaps this should be a sticky on all forums.......
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=189620 It certainly would lay the groundwork necessary to maintain decorum in discussion....... |
Something I learned in college is that the best professors weren't the ones with the best credentials or most amount of knowledge but the ones who could explain a difficult problem in a way that a student could understand.
Loren wrote in a post that "all you have to do is look" when I asked an honest question. By responding that way he epitomizes the aloofness that some teachers have towards their students. This renders his/their vast amount of knowledge useless. Loren lighten up! We all want to learn. |
