For those of you who think street racing is cool

This used to be a GT3. He was racing a modified 996 and swerved to avoid a slower car. The cops are estimating the speed at approx 170 mph. Unfortunately the driver did not survive, but fortunately nobody else was hurt.

I think some well-placed Bondo could fix that.

I wonder what was in the cooler.

That is some sobering carnage.

Man, Oh Man!!

Thanks for posting the pictures. Hopefully this will help to deter a few people who might actually consider racing or driving at insane speeds on public roads. Hopefully the guy in the other 996 learned from the other driver's death, which he participated in. No doubt that guy is looking at some serious jail time.

Another needless death. Really sad because it's so avoidable. Speed is for the track

maybe he was carrying some spare organs in the cooler.

seriously though that is really a shame. Too bad for him and im really glad no innocent people got hurt. 170mph on the street in the U.S. is just stupid.

The best thing one could say about something as hideous as that wreck and it's tragic outcome, is best summarized by 450knotOffice. Let us all hope his message gets through.

To parphrase Scott "Save that kind of sh$t for the Track, guys"

Good point. Those aren't GT3 wheels. How many miles would it take a stock 996 to reach 170mph? If at all?

Not a GT3

I always feel a little supid when the traffic breaks and I can open her up to 80 or 90mph, but 170. Just plain stupid. Even on a track at 170, the car should have a roll cage and 5pt harness at a mininum.

BTW, that's not a GT3. It's a modifed 996. Look at the seats. I don't belive those are sport seats and those sure as hell aren't GT3 wheels. Also the door sill plate says Carrara and not GT3. Now I'm sure, no way a GT3.

Sounds like two dumb asses in modifed 996's with a cooler of beer driving like complete idiots.

Yeah, I also noticed it wasn't a GT3. The GT3 must have gone on. But of course it is built for 170 mph.

a crash at 170 on the track would have resulted in the same carnage
