Help me price this car - what's it worth?

I am looking to sell my 911 and think I'm scaring some away by the price. I'd like to know where it should be priced in this market in order to move. Any constructive & Intelligent input would be great. The link below has ppi info and details/photos of the car. - Thanks

pics and info for the car here

I think that is a fair price for car discribed. How are the suspension bushings? No sign of accident damage? In this area that is what these cars are going for. If the car is fully sorted I would think that is good price!

I agree, price seems competetive. If it's as clean as it looks you will eventually get close to asking price, despite the miles. Maybe more activity in Spring? Good luck.

Keith Martin's current (2005) SCM Price Guide says SC Coupes, 78-83; 35,607 made - should bring between $15,000 and $19,000 in good driver #2 condition.
Yours is not low mileage, BUT it appears to be in VG condition, and I would say a desireable color combination and veru unmolested in appearance & equipment.
My SWAG would then be ASK $17000, and go from there... spring is a good time to sell sports cars, so get ready...

Good Luck, I really like that gun metal gray color.

EDIT: Just saw that you are asking $14000 now. It should sell for that easily, IMHO. Just wait for the right buyer.

All I can do is provide you with my data point.

I got my '84 with about 96K miles last October in South Florida. Similar condition to yours on the essentials I would say. Motor and trans still tight, original paint etc. The PPI drove some corrections by the PO that were completed and we settled on $14490.

I needed to by that car quickly (long story) so probably paid a bit more than necessary (maybe 5-800 bucks) but I did manage to get a lot of minor corrections addressed in the bargaining. If I had to foot the bill they would have cost me over $1500.

I might suggest you drop $100 to 200 for a good detail. Your car looks generally clean but a detail can work wonders. When buying something based only on a short description and a few pictures what you see is very important so make sure the pictures are real good too. If it was me I'd have it detailed and then still spend a couple of weekends going over everything (especially the engine compartment) if I was looking for top dollar.

Regardless, at 120K miles for an SC I think you would have to come down a bit at least in my neck of the woods.
Hope this helps.

suspension is right on with no signs of accident damage - original paint as well. It has the usual chips up at the nose. Thanks for the feeback

The price is pretty close I believe but the market is soft. Spring may be a better season.

Hold out for your $14,000......With the car in the condition you describe, particularly if the mechanic coroborates your story, it is worth every penny of $14,000. Having said that mid Feb is inot a good time to sell a car in NJ. It might take until May or June to get yor price.

Thanks for the input. The car has been waxed, but the interior could use a professional detail - that was good advice kilodawg... I'll get that done.

I'd agree 14K would be a good deal (for the right buyer). Just wait until spring.

I would not be the right buyer for that 14K car.

Mada, et al;
Sorry if my bias is showing... I have been immersed in the used vehicle market for the past couple of years (not Porsche-specific) and I have just HAD IT with the old lowball, I guess.
My firm belief is that if you take the time, and do the research to understand the market and YOUR SPECIFIC CAR's position and time it properly, you can always get fair value for your car.
I gave you the FV info, as best as I know it. SCM's auction based values may be high, I actually find them to be low in many cases; that info, together with sane input from THIS BOARD would tell me that your car is certainly worth something in the mid-teens.
The fact that you had already posted it at $14,000 makes it a foregone conclusion that you will sell it for a price in that range, so changing now to $17,000 is out of the question. My point was to hold firm on $14K as it's certainly worth that, IMO...;-I

I was only kidding... I certainly appreciate the diversity of the input. Man, I hate to sell this car at all... it's a wonderful toy.

Mada,
No worries, good luck - hope you can find a way to just keep the car, later on you will want another and go through Hell to find a nice one...;-)

Just spotted on Craigslist.
----------
This 1981 911SC Targa is in excellent, natural condition. The car runs extremely well with 208,000 miles on the original engine. For those who don’t know, these cars can get 500,000 miles if well maintained and this one has been. This has not been an everyday car. Most miles are highway miles. Power windows, working a/c, and black leather interior. There have only been a few upgrades such as matching color headlight rims and Alpine CD player (I still have the original parts for any interested restorers). Everything else is original. New Bilstein struts and new brakes. The tires are in great condition and the Targa top has recently been resurfaced. The car has always been garaged and the paint is in excellent shape with the exception of a few small spots. In addition, I have all maintenance records; most work done at The Stable. This is a classic Porsche that gets lots of compliments. I’m not happy about selling it, but its time to move on. Serious inquiries only please. 415-474-3084
-------

Not an everyday car, but it gets to 200K miles !
It will survive to 500K miles ???

Asking 14K$, so ... maybe I am too harsh.
