What's the widest tire that fits on a 17 x 10?

285? 315? 345?

For a 10" rim, I'd go with 285, or possibly 295 if available. Anything wider would really bow the sidewalls.

A 275 fits perfect on a 10". A 315 fits perfect on an 11 rim. A 275 does not fit onto an 11 rim. That being said, i would go no wider than a 285.

(please dont ask how i know this, although you can see my ad for 275s for sale.)

keep in mind that the 285/40 are 26" or more in height, that's getting up there unless the trans has been regeared.

Unless you are fitting race tires where you can really specify your sizing, there are no common street sizes that work well in 17".

Stock 911SC rear 225/50-16 was 24.9"

As Bill mentioned, a 285/40-17 is 26.0"

275/40-17 is 25.7"

315/35-17 is a little too wide for 10" rim but is also 25.7"

A 25.7" rear tire (275/40-17) vs a 24.9" rear tire (225/50-16) with a 915 trans at 9:31 R&P and 'SN' 28/23 5th gear the difference is almost 6 mph at 6500rpm.

No one makes a 295/35-17 (25.1") in a street tire, but that would have been close to ideal for a 17x10" rim, like the old-school RUF

Why guess! Here's the Bridgestone table for the S-03;

There are other such tables on the Internet.
