I had a nice visit at Axiom Motor-sport with the Joe and Rudy.
Work is progressing nicely. The passenger side is 80% done.
This week the running boards were fitted.

These will be Dzus fastened for use primarily at the track. Having them removable may avoid getting high centered on them when I need to put it on the trailer. Also jack access would be difficult when the rockers are in place. I may or may not use them when street driving, again just because with only 3 inches of ground clearance I would eventually drag, hit or crack the running boards.

Next week the front bumper and the front of the front fenders will be blended together. A very big Thanks to Axiom Motor- sport for making it happen!

Just for a what if I filled in the side of the rear bumper...a later model 911 would have the lower rear bumper sides......
Is the change meaningful?
hmmmm what would look good and still keep the early flavor, any suggestions?

I circled Rudy's favorite, many cute shots of everyones favorite shop lifter Winona Ryder.

Quick lunch Tip,,, respect Joe's secret “Insane Dave's Habanera pepper sauce”! I bet Joe I could rub it in my eyes if he would do my car for free. Joe said he didn’t want to ever see anyone suffer that bad. I tried a drop of the wicked evil sauce on a bite of food and it soon felt like my throat was dissolving as my forehead broke out in a sweat and my eyes watered! Too late I told him, the rubbing it in my eyes bet was off!!!
Nice guys, fun shop, fast, reliable and all work done right!
Thanks for your interest, hope you enjoyed the update.

Great looking car! It's exciting to see the progress...

What spring rates do you anticipate running front and rear? I'm running into problems with handling ....I got a 77 930 ~2700 pounds, 450 # coils up front and 600 rear, ERP front and rear suspension, 255 40 R17 and 315 35 R17 Goodyear F1 GSD3's. Just added 1" Charlie Bars front and rear (#4's) and having a hell of a time sorting it all out!...It REALLY wants to step out at EVERY opportunity. Got WAY sideways out of turn 2 at WSIR's bigtrack last time out. Had to disable the rear bar and soften the front and it made little difference. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike,
Jae at Mirage installed the coils and they are a couple hundred lbs stiffer than yours. Mine are just a place to start as I have not tracked the car with the new JRZ coil-overs. Jae at Mirage International
has a car similar to mine that we are matching for basic set up.
You should ask him as I could not tell you his exact set up, coil size, clicks on the JRZs, and alignment settings.
On your car if I had to make a guess regarding non-coil over related issues.
Is there any chance the rear on your could have a bit of toe out?
Too much rear camber? LSD acting up?
Give Jae a call at 1 858 581 1101 for a better answer on dialing in the coil-overs and his suggested shock valving.
Glad you enjoyed the photos.

I should have taken photos with and without the running board, since the car will not use running boards on the street.
I'll try to post some better comparison shots on the next update.
Here is my only non-rb photo, the driver's side.
The running board and front fender have not been fitted at this point.
Thanks for the compliments.

I knew it would be close, so I checked. It fits.
I've had the 911 in my trailer already but without the fenders.
So after a quick measure here are the clearances.

The rear track on this 911 is 73 inches at the outside of the tire.

I added 1.5 inch (generous) to each side for the new rear fenders.
With this at its widest the rear bodywork would be about 76 inches wide.
That's still 4 inches wider than the rear wing.

At 76 inches wide its just a pup next to a 935.

The trailer between its 6 inch high inner fender wells is 82 inches so that leaves 3 inches on each side.
The trailer walls are 96 inches wide so that leaves 10 inches from the rear fender to trailer wall.

A remote controlled winch would make loading it much easier.

So how do propose getting those size 15 shoes in between the car and trailer wall

Missed ya at the RSF dinner...good times!

Axiom Motor sport gave me a nice 30 photo update of this week’s progress.
This week they blended the front flares to a factory wide body width RSR front bumper.
While the bumper resin hardened the last flare (driver's front) was welded together.

I feel the RSR+/superwide 911 project progress has continued at an excellent pace during these challenging fabrication stages.
Enjoy the photos!

The left side nearly completed.

First the white pie cut to get it close.

Next the corner required a couple pie cuts and contouring.

Getting real close.
On the street the chin spoiler will be removed.
If not it might be damaged on a speed bump or a driveway.

From above, Axiom nice lines.

Holy cow! Thats dramatic!

The previous pics didnt really do the width justice. At first glance its pretty shocking, but Im sure it will look great. Youve never had an ugly car Looking forward to seeing it in paint.

Oh, and you could hold up a liquer store with Daves Insanity sauce. Not something to toy with! Maybe you could name the car "Teds Insanity"

Hi Michael,
Thanks for sharing your opinions.
Axiom saw your request for better side shots and sent these for you to compare. Axiom Motor sport is responding to requests for side shots from Michael located half way around the world!
Sure the internet is impressive but so is Axiom Motor sport for sending me hundreds of pictures!

Imho the side of the car looks more vintage without the running board, a nice street look for an early 911. On the street it will have either a duck tail or stock deck lid with the boards removed. Covering the oil lines, jack receptacles, seat pan or lower body seams with the running board is a cleaner but more modern look.

Will the running board provide any racing aero advantages?
Perhaps at race speeds the lower running boards will help keep a little more negative pressure under the car? At least a small Psyche for my competitors? When it's all done on the track with a 6 foot wing the running boards won't be the first thing you notice.

Mike- you may want to consider making molds from all this special bodywork. Sooner or later ya never know if a white corvette may come your way.....

Hey Dave,
Call mine Tabasco.
I appreciate the comparison but if "Daves Insanity sauce" was a 911 it would be closer to this!
That stuff is HOT HOT HOT!

Mike,
Looks awesome! That car is a freakin' steam roller! Sorry I didn't see you this weekend. We had a snafu with our dinner plans, so I stayed here in North county and made progress on the car.

Hope to see you soon!!! Next time you see Vic or go to Axiom, let me know. I'll give you a tour of my car / garage. I'm 2 minutes off of the 5 at La Costa Ave.

Doug

Thanks for the tip Dave, the white Corvette what a disapointment.
If I were in the middle of back to back race weekends out of state it would be very helpfull to be able to quickly replace these parts while at the track. Having a second set prepped and in the trailer could keep me racing and not going home in the middle of a trip.
Those boards are going to take a beating.

I know you have a mold for an awesome front bumper for the later 911.
I'd like to have a specific mold made of an early race bumper that was adapted to my car.
Any suggestions on where to get an adaptable front bumper like this?
Gracias Amigo.

I'd like to have a front bumper like this too. To fit an early hood, with just a straight drop down from the bumper line with no contour. I need it for a narrow body though:

I haven't seen a source for this.
