Thanks for taking the time to document your buildup! Awesome work! Loved the video, post more when you can. Thanks [/QUOTE] Thanks the Video is my from my buddy lowyder993. Well today Jae Lee at Mirage got after the rear stub axles. It was a bit of a surprise when we found that the drivers side stub axle flange had actually broke in half! Not much you can do when metal fatigues. Since it was all apart Jae did some while you are in there maintenance too. New stub axle bearing were installed on both sides. Jae established we were working with good pieces by replacing both stub axles with crack checked parts. Red locktite was used with the cotter pins and the two new axle nuts were correctly torqued. As our WEVO buddy Hayden Burvill so eloquently noted an axle nut too loose will loosen, too tight and it can stretch the axle shaft and then the clamping load relaxes and the nut torque is lost - same result as too loose. If the axle has been stretched, it will have yielded, in which case it is no longer full strength, will continue to yield with lower loads, finally cracking and breaking. On the CV joints - we used the "moon" washer and a schnorr washer with new bolts and the correct torque. The moon washer is the one that links two bolts together. We rechecked the bump and droop and driveshaft length appeared to be well within tolerance. Next Jae addressed the angled wear that the Turbo pads displayed. The Turbo rear calipers had been installed by the previous owner. Jae removed and re-indexed the caliper pistons. Due to the change in caliper location when converting Turbo calipers to aluminum swing arms rotating the pistons is required for even pad wear. The pistons actually have a ledge that must be correctly oriented. Out next event will be at Big Willow with the Pantera club March 4/5. I could go testing sooner on a Friday but I rather enjoy pacing the V8s. Besides, the surgeon general never said anything about smoking a V8. RSR+ development will continue after the Pantera race weekend. We’ve got some ideas to lighten the car, while keeping it street legal. No pictures at this time as my camera broke recently; a new camera is on the list. Thanks for your interest. ![]() |

Nice work and a good effort but IMHO I dont like the look of it.
Its unique enough but it doesnt really resemble anything RSR spec on the arches does it. Each to their own I suppose. |

I don't know if that was the question he was asking. My mom told me that if I didn't have anything nice to say......... Really, is that constructive on a year old thread?
Well, luckily he dropped the mod'd RSR look and went with a more typical GT2 looking 993 body. That is the great thing about customs is that it may be perfect for one and not ideal for all. If we all drove RS clones wouldn't 911's get a little boring?

It is more of an interpretation of the GT2 EVO factory race car. A pretty common shape at North America amateur Porsche Club racing events. The factory GT2 EVO though not hugely successful preceded the more successful and better known GT1. I like the early RSR look a lot. One cool thing about a 69 track/street 911 is that you can make it look like a 96 993. Imagine trying to make a 69 Camero look like a 96 Camero. I did it cause the car is low and wide, RSR fenders were too small. Take a lap with me, Buttonwillow raceway in California. http://s148.photobucket.com/albums/s39/TedDrake/?action=view¤t=Buttonwillowtimedlap.flv Factory look. ![]() My old hot rod. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

there are two types of tools in auto mechanics - the ones used on the car and the ones driving some of them. Let's see.. the world doesn't need another RS clone, that funky green back in the day reminds me of vomit, anodized Fuchs are soooo lame when you can get nice chrome 17s... should I go back to his site that shuts down after a couple hits and find some more nice things to say? ![]() ![]() I dig that car Mike! And I can attest to others it will flat hand that RS clone its butt on the track anyday 'cuz I have ridden in that puppy!

thanks guys, I'm still at it.
Hopefully at the next San Diego Cars and Coffee I'll have it out with a new 74 RSR rebody. The concept is convertible body that can be swapped in half a day, 993 EVO to 74 RSR. Here's green and white chassis with the optional RSR body being prepped for paint. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The Many Changing Faces of Mike
Nice build Mike. That EVO look was spectacular, but the 74 RSR - wow, just wow. Can't wait to see it in the flesh at Treffen and on the track at BW.
