What's a fair price to ask: 1980 911SC?

I'm sad to say that with our 4th kid on the way (14 Feb), my dormant 911SC project must go.

I'm trying to decide a fair price and would appreciate anyone's thoughts:

1980 911SC
Second owner
California car until 2 years ago when I was transferred to TX
109K original miles - all records
Original paint in good condition - Chifon White
No rust
16 x 6 x 7 Fuchs
Factory Sport seats
Interior is a bit weathered - carpet/headliner need replacement
SS Brake lines, new rotors, rebuilt brake calipers - 200 mi ago
Transmission rebuiit by Porsche dealer (Prev Owner at 80K miles)
Solid compression across all six
No oil leaks

NON- STOCK Stuff:

PMO 46mm Carbs
MSD 6 Ignition
Racor 110 fuel filter/water separator
Magnecor Plug Wires
SSI heat exchangers
Monty 2 in/out exhaust

Engine is very solid. Runs excellent. Sounds great.

My visions of 911 greatness have run headlong into the realities of life on a budget.

So what is a fair price for my de-railed project?

Thanks to all,

I'm going to throw out a number of $14,500. Sounds like a nice car, really.

Mike

p.s. gotta love those old McDonnell Douglas planes (F/A-18)...

A bit more info and pics would be helpful. Engine rebuild? Looks nice.

Thanks Mike. I was very fond of my McDonnell Douglas F/A-18...unfortunately, Boeing (which seems to own everything these days) has slapped their ugly nameplate on the F/A-18 now.

Cheers

I heartily agree. (I'm an old McDonnell Douglas employee now employed by Boeing...)

Jorian,
I haven't had a chance to take pics. The wife and I just decided yesterday so I'm doing some fact finding now.

No rebuild on the motor as it shows no signs of needing one. Very little oil consumption and solid compression. The rebuild was on my master list enroute to 911 greatness...but purely for HP and not necessity.

Why is this a 'derailed' project, other than a tired interior?

Those PMO's are worth a lot more off the car than on it. If you have the CIS injection kicking around, IMHO, you should reinstall it and sell the carbs seperately.

Yeah, with the carbs on it you wouldn't be able to pass CA smog...

The project is ending because....

Folks, don't get me wrong. MY project hopes are ending ("de-railed") due to a "Renewed sense of fiscal responsibility" you might call it. I have 3 kids (11, 6, 4) and another child due next month. We live in a 3 bedroom house sorely in need of expansion. Let's face it, one doesn't join the military because the pay is great! To make a long story short, I just can't afford to let the car sit in the garage except for an occasional fun drive and the self satisfaction turning a wrench gives me. As much as I'd like to see this thing through to completion, I'm having to think about adding on to the house and saving for the kid's college. If I were to win the lotto tomorrow, I wouldn't part with the car in a million years. I'm not holding my breath....

As for the CIS, I have all the stuff but the fuel distributor and brain - that and when the airbox blew the last time I decided to go the PMO route. No the car won't pass a CA smog. Where I live there are no smog laws

Cheers to all and many thanks for your help today and in the past!

I agree with the return to CIS theory. The engine mods might make it more valuable to a select few, but original is what pulls down the bucks. So I'd say the carbs don't add much to the saleable value. If you could get the parts and get well sorted CIS back on there and give the PMOs to me... I mean, and sell the PMOs then you'd get more $$ out of it. Of course you are missing some key CIS bits. I'd surf ebay for someone selling the whole CIS mess.

I don't think I can bear the thought of putting the #$%@ CIS back into the car. It was such a beautiful moment when the tangled mess was excised from the car.

Not passing SMOG in california means you will write off a large market for the car. And, the rolling 30 years law has changed, the 1980 model is never going to be exempt.

Heck, I was going to say 16K. 14.5K is a great price. I bought mine 6 years ago at 13K with cookies in the Dallas area. It was bone stock but in beautiful paint. As it is now with a rebuild at 10K miles.

Eric, your car sounds like a great deal at 14.5k. Although you cut out the Cali market because of the smog rules, I would not put that CIS back on. List your car on this BBS in the sales section and see what happens.

By the way, I would love to take a ride in that F-18 of yours. Any chance of diverting a mission to SoCal to pick me up? It should only take a few minutes with the afterburners on! God bless you in the military and we appreciate what you are doing to keep us safe.

Semper Fi, David

You can sell the carbs and the SSI and get the same money for the car with choked pipes and CIS. It's just a fact. Don't listen to what these sick people are telling you.

Did you change cams?

Sick too,

George
