Engine compartment light

Hi,
My friend has a '72 911T (European) and he has a wire hanging loose from the motor decklid. It is not for the licence plate lights. We think it comes from a deleted motor compartment light. Does anybody have a photograph showing this light? I know those lights were standard on later cars but wonder if the '72 can have one and how it looks like.
Thanks

Gruezi wohl Muf.

There is an engine compartment light under the cover in all 1983 911SC.

I am at work, starting the day, so I cannot take a picture, but the light is mounted on the center "bar" that bisects the inside of the air grill. The switch for the light is a rotating cover, that when opened to expose the light bulb, will turn on the light. However, the parking or running lights must also be on, in order to allow the engine light to turn on.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Andreas,
I guess the '72 and '83 will have about the same light, right?

It is possible, Muf. One would have to look up the 1972 Porsche Ersatz Teil (PET) microfiche to see if they show it.

Or else it could be wiring for a radio antenna. Many other possiblities, but perhaps someone with a 1972 who has such an engine compartment light would be able to be definitive.

By the way, say a "Gruezi wohl" to your car. If it's from Schweiz, it will undestand.

I tried PET but didn't see it. Or I did not reckognize it. Or did not know where exactly to look for it (tried Electrical and Body)

P.S. My car is sleeping now, I'll talk to it in spring :-)

See attached picture of a 1971 ST. Not sure if the light was a works option or owner installed. Anyway good thing to have.

Yes, that's the light!!!! Note that it is attached to the cross-bar at the middle of the grill, and that the shiny oval portion actually rotates to turn on the switch and expose the light.

I guess back then Porsche AG thought it would be interesting to see your engine at night. What you might want to look at at night is beyond me, but "nice" to have anyway.

When trouble shooting that light remember that it's only energized if the headlights are on. Ask me how I know...
