Is there a way to put 993 brakes on a 911 SC?

I'm sorry if this had been covered before, I can't find it and I think I have to make a fast decision. Is there a way to do it? Can you use the stock 16" wheels?

Thank you for your time.

Look at my homepage.
I did mine in the front with 993tt calipers and 965 discs, 322x24mm I think.

16 inch Design 90 will fit.

I did a similar conversion a few years ago (front: 993 calipers w/930 rotors). I don't know if you can use the 993 rotors. My setup would not fit under the stock 16" wheels but it would (barely) fit in 944 Turbo wheels and I expect it would work with other post '86 944 wheels. (A Design 90 would require spacers to get the correct offset.)

The 993 calipers were not the most expensive part of the project so even if you get them for free you are still looking at substantial investment.

I make the kit you need to work with the 993 calipers... Look up Jeremy964 on here and the post title is "Busy weekend brakes" He is a customer of mine, and you can see pics of my basic brake kit for a set of 993 calipers. The standard kit for the front of your car that will fit under your stock 16" wheels is $415. The kit is 309X32mm front discs, the largest kit available for 16's. You can call me at 301-748-7222 if you have any questions.

Yes you cando this.

You need; 2x 993front calipers, 2x caliper adapters, 2x 930 size front rotors and hats, 2x modified 993(or better 965) rear calipers, 2x 930 rear rotors, 1x 930 m/c and assorted hardware and brake lines.

'84 up will need to have the p/v removed

the wheels in front will want to be 944/951 7" or 8" x16 and in back 8" or 9" x16, the narrower the wheel the more likely a spacer will be needed.

911 7" x16 fronts will definitely need a spacer 6 x16 are not recommended at all

Blanco,

There are a set of 993 calipers in the for sale section for $800. I think that is a little high only because I just picked up two complete sets for $500 each.

I am doing the 993 conversion on my 79SC right now but I am using stock 993 front rotors, they are only $100 dollars each versus big bucks for the Coleman or Brembo rotors. I am using 930 rotors on the rear with modified 993 rear calipers.

The whole setup front and back including the MC is only running me $1850.

I'm considering a similar upgrade on my 77 but I have a question. Will going with 930 rear rotors require different wheel spacers?

It was cold last night and I see I have a little shoveling to do this morning.
Your brake kit looks great!

malone,

The 930 rear rotor is a direct replacement, it is larger in diameter/width and retains the E-brake functions. No wheel spacers should be required.

Slider, I have kind of a mess in that it's a stock narrow body car with turbo flares but 'S' trailing arms. The 17x11" fiskes require spacers to make them fit perfectly in the space. So will the same spacers still be required or what?

I could only assume that the same spacers would be required to make your wheels fit. The rotor itself shouldn't cause any differences.

Thanks Slider. Now that I think about it I guess it was a stupid question since the rotor fits directly on the hub.

Hi Bill,

I knew that would get your attention....

I should be doing the whole conversion in the next two weeks and I will take a bunch of pictures and create a post here for everyone to look at.

The whole thing is pretty cool, the front is all bolt-on and the rear only requires the caliper holes to be filled and re-drilled.

I have been following all of your brake advice for a long time now and this seems to be the best fit for my needs based on a lot of your information that you have posted. I will PM you when I get all the pictures taken and posted.

Thanks,

I'm interested in the front 993 too... but I'll also recommend DinFtown Dave's a good guy - answered all my questions - and everything has worked as well - or better as expected...
