Ian,

I think you have been officially anointed the "Heat Guru". Let me know if you want research help.

Rob,

You turn the key and even before the engine turns over the blower fan in the engine bay starts to wind up like a turbofan on a 747 at Heathrow, right? Perfectly normal.

I *think* the engine fan comes on based on two different control inputs.

- it may indeed come on as indicated when the key is first turned. but I thought only if the temp sensor at the engine calls for this. Meaning... only if the engine was recently shut down hot and the engine is too "hot" now. If true...then it would not come on with every first start occasion ( like when the engine is cold).

- and....
the footwell heater blowers can't come on unless the engine blower is first energized...as a sort of "permissive"..

Engine fan shouldn't "always" come on upon starting the car.....right?

-Wil

PS--thanks for the pic/link update...fantastic work !

EDIT....I know the engine fan comes on when the key is first turned...IF the heater knob is on full-high (or "9" ?).

Oh...another thing...I think the sensor that allows the footwell blowers to come "on" as a permissive ( and "maybe" is used as a hot-engine sensor)...is the sensor that exists ONLY at the driver's side air diverter valve over the driver's side shock. Note that such a sensor does NOT appear on the passenger side heater-diverter-flapper valve...over the passenger shock.

Complicated...eh?

Hey guys-

AWESOME thread.

Interestingly enough, I've got a 1982 930 (well, a DP 935 actually, but close enough). Unfortunately, it came missing the interior temp sensor that mounts between the sun visors.

I can't find anything in the catalog for a replacement, and my local Porsche parts suppliers have said that it's no longer available.

Anyone have any leads on where I could pick one up? (I'm located in Vancouver, BC, Canada).

Thanks...
