Lamberstl, welcome to the board. Those 2 levers activate the heater blower in the engine compartment. The blower forces air at the footwell holes.

As a prerequisite, you must post pictures of your ride and introduce yourself to the crowd. There is a lot of experience, wisdom, and knowledge within the BBS. You may also want to add the type of P-car you own to your signature so the advice can be narrowed down to your specific car.

Welcome, David

I'm still looking... for a 78-83 SC. I was surprised to see about 15 for sale on ebay. I just saw two post in auto trader that are close to me. Most by me are low mileage cars due to the snow. Which brings the question of whats worse a Porsche with 150k or one with 50k and who knows how it was stored?

As a rule, a car with a solid documented history (receipts for everything) is a much better car. The mileage isn't the most important thing if the condition checks out but 50 or 150K, you will need to get a PPI done by a mechanic that KNOWS Porsche air-cooled engines. Spending $150 now can save $10K in a year. There are several good books out there that tell you what to look / look out for. Different years have different strenghts and weaknesses.

The two red levers open the heater valves at the rear of the car. Left opens the left side, right opens the right side. There are also micro switches under each lever to activate the heater blower if it is still on the car and of course if it is still working. The more you pull up on the levers the more heat is directed into the cabin. As far as directing the heat to defrost or to the floor, those controls are mounted on the dash and if you do a search on heater controls or vent controls there are some great explainations and diagrams. Welcome and don't feel too put off by some of the smartass replies that you got. Peace, Ron
