I would like to replace my 2 Interstate u911-50 Batteries, With 2 sealed batteries. Can I use 2 two of these http://www.westcobattery.com/miata.html I don’t want to relocate my batteries, I want to keep them in there original location.
Thanks Christian

Sure you can. The originals had a CCA of about 300. If they fit your boxes, go ahead. Just watch for clearance to the posts when putting them in.
I replaced my OEM batteries with two from Cosco which had CCA 650 each. Tonnes of crank and never a worry for them going dead. They were inexpensive but a little different sized, so I had to put them in sideways, (positive side out) but they work great. Jim

Can you post a picture? I will be needing to do this soon as well and am looking for ideas. Also, why did you go with 2 when it sounds like one would have been sufficient?

Christian,
You might get away with only one of those in So. Cal. climate. A combined 900 CCA rating might be a little overkill as well as twice the weight. Sherwood |

I didn't want to have to relocate the battery for proper weight distribution. The ones I got from Cosco, although overkill on the CCA, are comparable in weight to stock. Therefore, leaving them in their original locations provides the weight distribution over the front fenders as designed.
Taking them away and moving one battery into the smugglers box changes the weight distribution from stock. I will post pictures in the next little bit. Gotta charge the battery for the digital. Jim

I have a 73E and am going with just ONE of these.
Small and lightweight (~15 lbs) with plenty of juice to turn over my engine. I do not have it mounted yet, but should do so in the next couple of days. I'll post pictures at that time. Lighter is better? Right? http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc680mjt.htm ![]()

We've been through this before...but if you want the EXACT same size as the original batteries, only in a gel cell? Sonnenschein makes them. Cheap they are not. Possibly because they are imported from Germany? Anyway, Sonnenschein A-200 dryfit, with the additional number 081-90640...

copper... What's the part number/any information you can provide.... on the batteries you bought from Costco?
Were you able to use the original fold over strap to secure them?

At work right now. I'll check them tomorrow. They were $50 each (canadian) Because I put them in sideways, the strap wouldn't reach so I used a couple of strong flex ties to connect the ends. The height was an issue, had to get something that would clear the posts in the box. These work great, have a great lifespan/warranty and fit nicely in the box. Probably stick out about an inch or so more than the originals. Lots of clearance on driver side, and just snug to the full size spare on the pass. They are costco's brand, Kirkland. I will get the battery number off them for you and post a pic. Jim

Jim - Thanks. I tried every battery the Interstate Battery down the street from my office the other day and nothing they had fit. Except the Mercedes 600SL battery they couldn't sell me because it reserved for Mercedes customers only... At the low low price of $ 165. Putting it in sideways is not a problem if that's my only alternative. The one I've got in there now goes almost in but hangs on the fill caps.

These Kirklands are sealed. No maintenance which is nice. Posts are low enough to fit. I just put ground side in, with a buffer in between and put a rubber cover over the pos side on the outside.

Kirkland is Costco's house brand.

The full brand name on all of Costco's inhouse stuff is "Kirkland Signature"
