Raised Spindles VS. Big Reds
I am building custom spindles and they will be raised about 1.5" above OEM location but the further up the spindle moves on the shock the closer the ball joint comes to the brake rotor. I plan to upgrade to Brembo GTP brakes and I know the Brembo rotors are wider than the OEM 84 rotors. Is the additional width on the inside of the rotor or the outside of the rotor? Will these wider rotors come closer to collision with my ball joint?

Not sure about the later cars, but on the earlier ones I have to space out the hub about 4mm (Doug at VCI makes a spacer). I realize that the ball joint does get closer because of the angle of the strut, but I can't imagine it's more than 1-2mm at most. How close are you now?

You are spacing out the hub and the caliper ? correct?
or just the hub? What I have is the OEM spindle, a pice of 2.5" od x 2.0" id x 3.375" l DOM tubing, and the OEM ball joint receiver. I am welding the DOM to the bottom of the spindle and the receiver to the bottom of the DOM. Then I am going to chuck the whole thing up and bore it to slip fit onto the bottom of an aluminum strut. With the OEM 84 rotor I am close to the ball joint but I was worried that the Brembo would come closer and collide with the ball joint. I can machine a spacer for the rotor if needed, I was just curious if anyone had done raised spindles and Brembo's.

Must have been a thin spacer on the hub as to not have to move the calipar out also.

Chris' VCI's setup uses the hub spacers (circled in the first picture) and of course uses the radial caliper adapters (second picture) to properly fit the whole setup to the strut. I have to assume that the thickness of the radial caliper adapter was sized to account for the thickness of the hub spacer, in order to center the caliper over the new rotor?

I don't believe that you will have a problem, the first thing that hits is usually the rim.
Here is a Big Red kit, which uses the same rotor as the GTP, stock spindle height, no spacers ![]()

I just installed RSR struts with 19mm raised spindles, and I'm running Big Reds. I have 17x8" wheels up front with about a 31mm offset, and there do not appear to be any clearance issues. I will know for certain in a week or two during the test drive, but I don't foresee any issues.

Rob, In your case you have the De-Cambered ball joints. The offset of the ball joint actually gets you extra clearance to the rotor.
I had another customer who bought the ball joints specifically for this reason.

i have front rsr struts with NO negative camber built into them. When i put the front big reds and 993tt rotors. the rotors hit the tip of the a-arm. i had to machine a spacer for the hub.

Well this morning I welded the DOM to the bottom of the Spindle and then machined the ID to fit on the air ride strut so next is to weld on the ball joint receiver - If it rubs then I will macine some spacers for the hub.
Thanks for all the input!!!
