Need help to identify brake line flare style
Hey guys I need some help...Does anyone know what style of flare that is used on my 1991 911 turbo brake lines? I need to shorten some brake lines and do not know what type of flare is needed to go back with. I can send the lines I have back for shorter ones but I would rather cut and flare them myself so they are the perfect length. For the record I am putting new brake lines on all 4 calipers that go from side to side of the caliper halves. My other lines and fittings were stripped etc.
Thanks! Eric Hood |

They are basically called a 'metric flare', or single flare. The more popular type on all american cars is a double flare. It is a different tool altogether than the standard flare kit.
An easy way to tell them apart is the standard flare has a 'female ' end and the metric flare has a 'male' end.

I have a single flare kit and have done double flare this is neither. I am assuming it is a metric flare? The back of the flare is flat which is different than what I have seen.

The tool you are looking for is called an ISO flare.

The ISO bubble flare? That is what I was thinking after a search on flare types. There are a few kits around 20 bucks on ebay I might buy. My cousin is a master technician so maybe he has one I can borrow?
Thanks Eric |

Yes, ISO is also called a bubble flare. OTC makes a nice low cost kit in the Stinger line, part number 4503 or 4504 I think.

Thanks Toolman and everyone else! I ordered the OTC kit today and should have the brakes back on the car soon. This is what they are looking like. I had the rotors and calipers ceramic coated. The fronts are much larger and look more impressive than this pic of my rears
