Off road use only???
What's the diff? I can buy 100 octane that is advertised as "onroad" use but the 104 is for "offroad" use only. Can anyone explane the difference? BTW, both of these fuels are being purchased in 55 gal drums, NOT at the pump.

maybe one contains lead as an octane booster? I'm just guessing here...leaded fuel is a no-no for highway use, but still legal for other applications in this country, the USA. (Your post gave no location)

Sorry pwd72, I'm in Florida. And no, it's not leaded. The drum says 104 Unleaded. It's Sunoco GT PLUS Unleaded 104 Racing Gasoline (Oxygenated 4.5% by vol.) Whatever that means. Here is the website. They say that it is NOT for street use but don't say why. http://www.cosbyoil.com/racegas.htm I'm just afraid of messing up some 02 sensors or something.

You need to check with the company chemeists or the local air quality people. The formulization probably is outside of specifications for "motor vehicle" fuel...Fuel with octane that high is usually rated as avgas.

What are you getting that fuel to run in? A stock car with a cat? Is it a ROW high compression model or something else entirely?

Oxygenated fuels require you to change your mixture for best performance. You can (and sometimes need) run a richer amount of fuel because the fuel contains oxygen. Is your car set up for this or are you planning to dial it in for oxygenated fuels? It could lead to potential problems, such as a lean condition if you don't compensate for it. Lean=hot=bad.

I agree with Gary. There is probably no road tax included in the price, hence the “off road use only” admonition. What are the two prices? Do some shopping. Race fuel suppliers are in a competitive business.
