showing off the turbo to the PO

Tomorrow I am going over to the PO's house with the 911SC turbo.
I bought it from him a few years ago for $8k, and it had.... issues.

Now most of it is straightened out and it has a tad more power (about 60%) than when I bought it. It also runs better, shifts better, handles better, and brakes in a straight line.

He invited me over to check out his newly Aquired Acura NSX.
I think he will be a bit surprised when I take him for a ride
I expect that after tomorrow his NSX won't shine quite as much as he thinks it does now

Sure I'm gloating, is that bad?

This is funny Sam, I thought about doing the same w/ my '79 SC I picked up for 7K. The guy had problems in the mechanical skills dept.
I am amazed at some of the botched work I have found and straightened out so far. I won't contact him, but it is fun to think about!

It passes very easily. All I have to do is remove the turbo and associated piping and bolt on all the stock stuff every 2 years it only takes about 3 hours to return this car to showroom stock.
Even with the turbo the emmisions would prolly pass, it runs very clean until I get up on boost.
BTW it's a 1980.

I am on the verge of the same thing. I bought a 1986 930 for $ 4,500.00 from a guy who could not tie his shoes he gave up and let the car sit now in 8 months it has transformed. I think this is the most fun part when they see them !

Just curious....why would a turbo added to an otherwise stock CIS not be legal? The aftermarket blower on my truck is legal....have you actually asked BAR/DMV if it was allowed?

Onliest problem I can see is the cat.
I've toyed with the idea of putting a stock 930 cat/muffler on this car, but most sellers of those things think they are made of solid gold.
If'n I did that it would be completely legal at least in my mind. the smog guy might not agree.

I love Porsches, but that NSX is one nice car. I have driven a few and nearly bought one on more than one occasion, but they just do not have the "porsche feel' to them that I like. Pretty quick too!

The only thing that is 'supercar' about a NSX is the pricetag.

They are pretty cars, they are refined and comfortable, they are unusual.
That's about all that I can say that is positive about them.
I never considered them supercars.
I'd be really surprised if he can keep up after I hit second gear.
Acouple years ago aguy who worked for me at the refinery had an NSX, I talked him into taking it to some autocross events. He got the nickname "maytag".
Eventually after his skills were honed a bit better we went to streets of willow together. While timing devices were not allowed, my watch showed my then completely stock 911SC about 3 seconds a lap faster than the NSX, and that was very crappy tires and 23 year old suspension on my car. Unfortunately I can't attribute it to my superior drving skills, because I don't have em

They are a better running Lotus....

Well, the NSX was purdy. bright, arrest me red, looked brand new. Onliest problem was the tranny crunched into second gear, gotta pull the tranny and engine to fix, aint as easy or cheeep as with a 911.

He took me for a ride, I was impressed. Very nice, smooth, solid, and faster than I expected. Not as fast as my car, but no slug. Too refined and isolated, kinda like watching a race on tv vs. being in the race.
It felt like a fast cadillac or mercedes, the kind of car you could drive 100 mph all the way to vegas without being tired.
Still, it had too many doo-dads. Do we really need a thing on the dash to tell us a door is open on a 2 door sportscar?
AC works, that was a nice touch, but head room was almost non-existant for someone my size. I had to move the seat all the way back and tilt it way back just to get my neck straight.

Then we took a ride in my car. I cruised around normal-like for a mile, He said, "it doesn't much sound different".

Then I hit the throttle at 3000 rpm in second as we entered a gradual right hander sweeper. The boost hit, the back squatted down but stayed planted, and the right front was climbing up in the air. I banged third and he was grabbing onto anything that he could reach. He said, "holy ***** this thing hits hard!"
I got on the binders and slowed down to a more comfortable pace and he started saying stuff about how we have to go show this car to this guy and that guy. My work there was done. Maybe I shoulda raised up the boost more. Did I mention that I raised it up to just under 9 psi before I left my house?

Before I left he told me that he always wanted an NSX but he's already thinking abourt selling it. He told me he rarely drives it and all he sees when he looks at it is a large payment sitting in the garage. He's put 1000 miles on it since he bought it.

All in all his car was very nice, but too refined to be a true sports car.
If he asked to trade i would consider it but just because his car is worth so much more on paper. My car is way more fun to drive even with it's squeaks and quirks.
