slugish, then better, what is it

1986 911 3.2 targa. When I start the car up, I hear a "cough, burp" for about 5 minutes. It goes away. Then, in 1,2,or 3rd gear, it seems so sluggish from a stop. It has a smell of gasoline upon start up, kind of loading up. In 1st gear, it seems to want to bogg down. When I rev it up, it seems to clear out whats in there, and runs great. What do I need? A new chip, new plugs, new points? Any help would be great, because the car does run pretty good most of the time. Thanks for any reply

Smell of gasoline may mean the cylinder head temp sensor has failed and you are getting too rich a mixture when cold start. Check your muffler tip for carbon (black sooty coating that tells you a too rich condition exist). Check for threads here on replacing the CHT sensor. Not too hard a fix. The 3.2 Carrera has a few weaknesses easily found and corrected.
