CV hex nut stripped--HELP
One of the hex nuts that attaches the axle to the back of the rear wheel is stripped. What are the tricks I can do to get this out? Thx

Hammer in a slightly larger torx socket then use an impact driver to crack it free

CV joints are held with cap screws - or are you talking about something else (?) Is this a Carrera?
so expect it to act that way not like a nut if its the CV joint screw

I used a dremel and cut a slot in the head. Then used a screwdriver held perpendicular to the bolt. Make sure you use the 12 point drivers for these. 6 point or allens dont fit.

This is for an SC. The hex bolt I'm talking about is behind the wheel (not next to the transmission) but right behind the wheel that attaches the axle to the hub. Sorry if my terms are incorrect I know that makes it difficult to help. I removed 6 or so of them and it they appear to be 6 sided hex bolts. The others came out pretty easily. I'll try the oversized torx head method first. Then try cutting a slot with my dremel.

a hex bolt has a 6 sided cap - like you'd grab with a wrench
an Allen head bolt or cap screw has an INTERNAL 6 sided thing - that's what the torx idea is for a nut is like a big thick washer with 6 sides on it - it threads onto a bolt and has internal female threads - for them you can use a nut cracker to break them into 2 pieces.

Randy--you're right--its a allen head bolt and I finally got it off. I cleaned out the inside of the internal 6 sides--there was quite a bit of grease and dirt in there. Probably why the allen head socket was not gripping the inside. Anyway, after doing this and tapping the back of the socket with a rubber mallet and slowly applying pressure it came out and I could pull the axle and CV away from the wheel hub. Thanks for the help all,
