Handling of O2 Sensor
Hello,
In the spring I am planning on installing the Dansk pre-muffler that's sitting in the basement. I have never performed any exhaust work (or much of any other car-related work) and have a question about handling the O2 sensor. Once it's removed is there any special way to handle it as to not screw it up (other than dropping it or letting my 3 year old son throw it)? This is unknown territory for me and I'm thinking that I'll want to clean it up nice before I thread it into the silencer (I'm sure it has a soot layer on it after 36,000 miles) Is this advisable? Thanks for your advice, Last edited by KatoKato; 03-21-2005 at 04:04 PM.. |

I believe the 02 sensor should be replaced every 30K miles....
Replace it...

They typically last over 60k miles.....
Don't touch the sensor end and don't let it come into contact with oils or silicone..... Wil

Wil's advice is right on. You can use the OEM replacement, which is a bit spendy, or a generic unit and then graft the plug from the old one to the new one. I bought the generic unit, spliced the wires, soldered them, and then covered them with heat shrink tubing.

And contrary to popular belief, Carrera's should NOT have an idle surge....(if all components and vac. etc is up to snuff)
