Carrera VIN
A quick question for all you experts. Is it possible that a car with a vin of 9114100802 is a factory Carrera. Both of the VIN data bases I've checked indicate it is a base '74 coupe. The owner is adamant about it's authenticity. Opinions?
Thanks Bob D

Bob,
My Porsche Spec Book agrees, 1974 911 (normal, not S or Carrera) coupe. 9114100802 911 = Vehicle type. 4 = Model year 1974. 1 = [Normal] 911. 0 = Coupe. 0802 = Consecutive chassis number. A ’74 Carrera coupe would have a VIN: 9114400802. Make sure it isn’t just a typo. Are all four S/Ns in place and the same as the title & registration? Check the engine serial number and Type. The Normal should be 614XXXX, Type 911/92. The Carrera (or S) should be 634XXXX, Type 911/93 Best, Grady

Bill,
Thanks for the reply. I fully agree. The owner is convinced he has a Carrera and I'm trying to make sure I'm not mistaken before I tell him he's full of it. Thanks Bob

Thanks Grady.
I told the owner to check the VIN again. He may have copied wrong.

Bob,
E-mail me your e-mail address and I will scan the appropriate pages of the Spec Book in high res. They are illegible when sized for posting – 30 years of being handled has degraded them somewhat. If it is a nice 911 and passes PPI, a normal is just fine. BTW, welcome to the Pelican Forum. Best, Grady gradyclay@hotmail.com
