Has anyone ever thought about or heard of someone putting an access hatch to the front of the motor behind the rear interior panel? I dont think it would hurt the structural integrity of the panel too much. It sure would make small adjustments alot easier. hmmmmm metal scissors anyone?

This was a common mod with VW buses, so much so that the factory did it starting in '72. Your only real hurdle would be how to finish it off so it doesn't look ghetto (which never seemed to be a concern for the VW people)

Many 911 racers remove the entire vertical panel and the rear seat metal above the transmission, suspension and axles. This gives great access for repairs and adjustment. An original appearing piece is Dzus fastened back in place with a seal. Of course these cars all have roll cages.
For most applications, a 911 engine is so easy to remove it is hardly worth the effort to do much with it in the car. For routine service we would pull many engines and every 930. Think of the difference in quality of the work with the engine on a stand with good access and lighting compared to you hunched over the engine in-situ. Best, Grady

I always wondered why a transverse cut line couldn't have been used for the engine lid....going fully left to right, so that the entire rear "clip" can hinge forward? Think....RUF CTR2...or even an early E-type Jag ( on the "other" end).

Im thinking of making an acess panel for my sc. it wouldnt be unsightly because id make it so it fits under the back leather panel. Its only 4 screws and speaker wires and it comes right out. Then im thinking maby a sliding panel or hinged like the smuglers box. It would be especially helpful on cis cars where alot of the parts are back there. If anybody had picturs of a car that has this mod please post them
