Intermediate shaft backlash?? Help!

Getting ready to button up the bottom end tonight... but, I've posted a question regarding backlash on the rebuild forum a few days back with no response. Would sure like some reassurance I'm not making a big mistake.

Here's the deal. I've got a 0 size shaft gear, and a 0 size sandcast case for my 67. Problem is I can't detect any backlash between the gears. I mean they're tight as can be with absolutely no "click" or any discernable play.

The way I understand it though, the only other gear sizes are the "1" gears, which are slightly larger. Obviously this would only worsen the already tight fit. Since I see no other option, I'm going to assume the currently tight fit is as good as it's going to get and just move on.

Thoughts??!!

Bill

the old vw trick was to rotate the crank when it was lying in the open case half, and if the cam popped out, it was too tight. you're probably ok, no backlash with no actual binding makes for quiet running.
