Bumper swap? What would you do if you were me
Both ends of my SC are starting to get a bit tire....
The smile on the front is lifting, the front valance is chipped. The rear bumper does not sit right. It looks like it was hit in the past and so it sits low on the left side and the rear left valance is a bit pushed in. I'm considering several optins. I plan to buy new ROW lights(H4?) and a duck and so I'll need some paint shop work anyways. My options are: #1 - buy replacement parts for the front smile and any other worn our bumper parts and have the rear bumper repaired. I've got new fog lamps to replace the current poor fitting items or #2 - buy replacement RUF (MA Shaw) peices to replace both front and rear bumpers. However then I'll have all the fitment issues and also lose any minor parking impact protection. What would you do....I'm already going to have to pay a paint shop to do the Duck and light rings.....Will it be much more to get the FGlass bumpers painted and fitted versus the repairs to the existing front and rear bumpers What do you think would look better, given the colour and model

I am swapping mine shortly as well, as soon as they are fitted. Nice car by the way.

Hi JEff
Jeff,
What manufacturer did you choose...? Any bumper support or bumper shocks? Is a shop doing the fitting? What did they quote you? |

Hi there, I bought the bumpers used. I am fitting them myself and will be making custom supports for them.

The rear is easily re aligned. The large rubber block with the cut is available used (SC and Carrera ones are slightly different).I would update the front to the Carrera valance. I believe the lights are the same with a diff rear mount method. This way you can reuse your front rubber spoiler and some light parts. The main risk I see with the front fiberglass bumper/spoiler combination is it is more easily damaged by grounding it in low driveways which the rubber lower lip helps prevent.

I had the same questions about 18 months ago and because my car is strictly a driver and not a racer I was concerned about the parking lot taps and low driveways. I really really like the look of the faux RUF pieces and had a good experience with MA Shaw when I bought my duck from them. I use my car in a lot of real world situations and if someone taps the bumpers the glass ones are a mess. I am a driver my car is never concourse clean, although in general its always neat and shiny but I am not obsessive to the point where I wont park on the street or in a crowded lot.
