Carl... I was joking with that comments... I think everybody tries to make their 911 the best 911 they can.

CIAO,

This car I was showing you isn't mine. I saw this at the Porsche for Sale site. I was just trying to show you what you may be able to do to yours. I wish it were mine.

Mine is a Stock 83 911sc. The only mods i've done so far was to change my airbox cover and Upgrade my headlights to the Euro H4. Didn't mean to mislead you or anyone else.

BTW the 930 I posted has an asking price of +$30k.

I feel that with carefully thought out modifications, any porshce will hold their value. There will be buyers who prefer the mods already in place and there are buyers who are just Stock plain.

SCs are probably some of the best platforms on which to do modifications. I think that's so because SCs are some of the best Porsches produced. With that said, I'd choose my modifications very carefully. Read as much as you can and ask as many shops as possible about their thoughts on modifications. Then decide if you truly need the full race suspension or the high-revving motor. 9 times out of 10 my bet would be you don't. I've listened to my mechanic and shop and they've listened to me. They've seen me drive and know very well what I like to do with my car. With that regard, I've ended up with a car that is a very nice blend between street and track. Also remember that the stock 911 is truly a performance car, and particularly the air-cooled versions are very hard to compete with within the overall scheme of straights and corners. Plus, the huge factor is they aren't making air-cooled Porsches any longer. So whomever says the SC will go up in value is correct, but I wouldn't expect much increase within, say, five years.

Anyway, exterior mods. I don't know. I'm partial to the stock look. It is such a cool look from the factory. RUF is nice, but don't you need the RUF wheels to fill out the look? And won't RUF wheels incorporate some suspension modifications? And then won't suspension modifications make you want to get a more powerful motor? You see how the slippery slope begins.

If I had to do it over again, I'd buy an SC upward to what I would want to afford, including a 993. I'd lighten it, align it nicely, lower it to Euro spec or a tad bit lower, put some performance tires on it, and leave it alone. My current car is a little more involved, but some of that was trial and error, and foolishness in not asking enough people for enough advice. Nonetheless, it still follows the same general principle of doing things to a point, then understanding if I did more, the new character gained in the way the car behaves would not necessarily be better character.

Regardless, I believe there is a wise way to modify a car that is still competitive 20 or so years after its introduction, such as the 911. But you can do so without breaking the bank or creating a hybrid of something else. These are just my thoughts, of course. You should do what you like in this case. Good luck.

'Hack' is such an ugly word... i prefer 'customization' for those with a little imagination. Yeah it's an SC with the T*****in EFI system (best investment ever... had a CIS burning ceremonythe day it went on) Why detail the engine and not show some off. Plus i dig the Carrera GT lid and how it harkens back to the old RSK's and their mesh exposing the cooling fan/webber intakes. Anyway, it'll look cleaning when finished and repainted.

Simply unbelievable how much better a regular old G.red 911SC can look w/ euro trim. That is really sharp. It's like that is the original design, (which of course it is), and our cars were then modified by General Motors or something.

The mods that you brought up are 100% reversible, (bumpers, etc..), so what is the question? Just keep the stock bumpers, and sell the next owner everything, or give them the choice, or whatever.

A bone stock 993tt daily driver 2 years ago morphed into this:





A 750+ horsepower ITB/Motec/Garret Turbos, etc, etc fire-breathing monster that is one of the fastest Porsche's on the West Coast. Runs in the 1:18-1:19 range at Willow and in the 1:36-1:37 range at Cal Speedway in Fontana.

Cost? If you have to ask, you can't afford it. Fortunately, this car owner can and then some.

Have fun with your car and modify it to your tastes. Life is too short and SC's are a dime a dozen. I don't believe that they will ever become collector cars.

Howzit,

Carl, if you are single (again!) with a car like that then you deserve to have the best car (he he).

My car is a track/road car and would not hold a light against your awsome 'styler', different horses for different courses. As Matteo above I got the track bug.

Paul from Norway. I'm in South Africa, the bumpers are '74 RS in GRP but we make them in carbon as well. The splitter is add-on and did really help with stability in high speed corners. It is too big for straight line speed and will scrape the ground above 220 kph. As I said, the car is mainly for track now. There's a cooler behind the grill btw. and the air ducts are to the brakes.

Wing is 'our' version and a combo of RS and Carrera 3.0. It is light and looks good on a narrow car.

Doors are carbon and bonnet GRP. Under the skin the car is 100% modified - nothing is standard (but the windscreen!).

Enjoy Norway - summer IS coming.

The age old question re: Porsches! I'm now having have the same issue with my low mileage bone stock '76 914 now that teeners are more popular.

I am not an expert on SC's or a member of the infamous SCWDP, but I have always heard that the '78's are the most desireable because they were lighter. If that is the case, the mileage is not that high and its totally original now, I would modify it to make it what you want as long as the mods are reversible; i.e. suspension, exhaust etc. That's what I have done with my CS and I like it just fine! If it was somewhat of a junker that you got for a good price and was rust free, I would totally mod it out as a DE car with bigger engine etc.

I had so much more more fun with my modified SC than when it was stock. Years (or should I say YEARS) from now that bone stock may be worth a little more than your personalized toy, but think of the fun you will have missed. Carpe diem.

And btw, the P-car enthusiast who bought my modded SC LOVES it!
