If Porsche had made a modified 911SC what would they have done?

I've often wondered if Porsche had made an SC that was more modified for the street what would they have done and been able to market it ?

Or put it this way, What would you have liked to see them do ?

How about a 98mm P/C kit? for today's upgrade/mod that is. No induction...EFI? Digital ignition?

I'd say bump the HP 10/15 percent.

Drop some pounds with no A/C or power window's. Loose the sunroof.

16" wheels standard, 7's and 8's or even 9's.

Yeah, but it was too modified to market to the public.

Maybe I should have said what would GM have done or Ford,
I want a choice of 3 motors in the same car

I rebuilt my SC thinking just that thought.

Not exactly what I did but I think this is what Porsche would have done if asked. 7/9 Fuchs, later Carrera Sway bars, 98mm P&Cs (3.2l) with a bigger 74.4 crank. (3.356 L) A better engine management system for performance instead of emissions like CIS. Drop all the weight/bumper bs that the US required. Carrera brakes min.

Just take a look at the power to weight of the early cars and the upgrades made to the Carrera/964 a few years later. Not hard to speculate what makes a better car in Porsche's eyes. Less weight, more power, better brakes generally makes a better Porsche.

Same basic ideas were incorporated in the SC/RS

Easy enough to go from a 180 (3.0L) then to a 230 (3.4L) then to a 280 (3.6) RWHP engine. You just need to realise what needs to follow those HP increases to keep a well balanced car as Porsche intended.

Changed the engine to a 3.2L Motronic...added fog lights, updated the interior and ventillation system... changed the badge on the back... improved the suspension and thickend the sway bars etc.

Porsche did modify and improve the SC...it's called a Carrera!

Actually, one of the things the factory did offer during the SC years was a 3.2 liter motor through their "Special Wish" program. It was a big-bore engine that was built in Werks I and it produced approx. 215-220 bhp. It was not, however, offered in the US due to smog regs.

Unfortunatly, didn't they have to DE-TUNE the 3.0 Carrera to meet U.S. emissions? Those Europeans get all the better toys!

Porsche used the Mahle, Max Moritz P&Cs 98mm. 3.2 with a SC crank...or a 3.4 with a 74.4 crank.

Nice set up that Helmet Bott pioneered a few years earlier in his own car (as a 3.5). Never went into production because the cars would beat the early turbos.

They did offer a modified SC, I think they called it a 930 or something.

I think there is only one way to improve the original though, and that is add a turbocharger and leave everything else the same

They did modify it. The 935/78 Moby Dick was homologated as a 911 SC variation, not a 930.

My SC came from the factory with an extensive delete list.
The exclusion list included:
No A/C or C/C
Manual windows
Manual radio antenna
No sunroof
Minimallistic carpet set
The original owner, whom I bought it from, ordered it that way and traveled to Germany to pick it up.
After I purchased the car the smog equipment was removed and SSIs added. That formula made for one quick little car.

So I think the factory allowed you to do all you legally could to get a light weight car out of the SC.
