245 & 275 on fuchs for a 3.2? What do they look like?

I am having a hard time picturing this...Fuchs (8's &9's) with 245 fronts, and 275 rears on a 3.2 Carrera? Sounds kinda circus like.
Anyone got a pic? Do fenders have to be rolled?

Here's mine (on a '76 with SC flares):

and yes, I had to roll the fenders...

Mike / Ted,

Did you move the oil lines on the rhs? We are only just fitting a 265 in a 'standard' but rolled carrera/SC flare.

Both cars are pretty low (and look great!).

Just wondering...

No oil line moving for me. I have been fortunate not to have any issues with fitment.

Mine's a 69 and it required all the basic mods. Oil lines relocated, spring plate bolts surfaced and fenders rolled.

235/45 & 275/40 on 8 & 9.5 x17

How they fit depends on
  • wheel width
  • wheel o/s
  • tire width( 275s are not the same, all 235s are not the same etc.

There is just barely room in an SC/Carrera rear wheel well for a tire 11" wide, in the front ~9.5" is max

I don't think you'd want to use that size tires on 8 and 9 x 16 Fuchs. I think you'd get better handling out of 225 50 and 245 45. The other's would fit, but the sidewalls would bulge and not handle as well because the tires are on the big side for those wheels.

THe biggest tire isn't always necessarily the best tire.

I was wondering, I did not think 275s would go on a nine?

I saw that Toyo RA1s come in a 225/4516 and 265/45 16. or I think a 255/45?? EIther way that would be a sweet combo.

Most of the 265 and 275 competition tires are listed for 8" to 10" rim widths.

Search for member ttweed, he uses these sizes and has a set of 8's and 9's for sale here.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=216308

I'll go out on a limb though, and say that *no one* is using 245/275's on Porsche 16's on the street.

Sorry, I don't agree with that. I have used both the 245/275-16 Hoosier and 245/265-16 Kumho combination on two different sets of 8 & 9x16" Fuchs and there is no serious bulge or compromise on the handling due to mushy, flexing sidewalls with a race tire in that size with a 2400 lb. car. Maybe if you put some thin-sidewalled, high aspect ratio street tire on a 3,000 lb. pig you would feel some flex, but I have run this combo hard at every track in CA in my RS clone with good results, and it has more grip this way than with 225/245s. I would rather have a 10 in the rear, or 17s even, but you'd have to go to a custom 3-piece wheel like Ted's. For the stock, forged Fuchs look, this is the most rubber you can get on a narrow body.

Here's some pics of the wheels and Hoosiers I am selling from last Nov. at Thunderhill (thx for the plug, Tod.)

And a pic from Ca Speedway of the 245/265 Kumho combo on the same rims:

I'm sure a competition tire on a light car is different than a street tire on a fat street car. Since nothing was ever said about competition tires I ASSuMEd we were talking street.

I stand corrected.
