-84 911 brakes

The brake thread has been discussed to death; however, I have a specific upgrade question for my car.

What do you guys think about upgrading the fronts to Carrera2 and moving the current fronts to the rear? Has someone done this? I have stock Fuchs 16s but plan to use 16 8s and 9s for track. Will the c2 calipers clear the wheels?

Thanks, jt

The short answer is there is little to nothing to be gained.

964 C2 (and C4) front calipers will clear fuchs 16x6's, 7's and 951 8's. Calipers will need to be machined and adapters purchased to mount to your struts.

You can't move the front calipers to the rear, the mounting holes are 3.5" on the calipers and 3" on the trailing arm. In addition, F-R bias would be wrong at 1.25. That's a little more R bias than stock and you do have a proportioning valve in the rear, so I suppose it could work from a bias perspective but you still have the mounting issue.

You could leave the stock calipers in the rear, remove the PV and use the C2 calipers in the front. F-R bias would be good at 1.64, but what have you gained over stock? What rotors did you plan to use in the front?

As Todd explained you have done nothing to improve your brakes, in fact bias is worse.

There are no cheap shortcuts to better brakes

Unhappy brakes

Darn, thought I was on to something. What can I do then for the least amount of dough? 930 or s4 in front maybe?

BTW, your car looks awsome Bill!! What brake setup do you have?

Why do you think you need to upgrade brakes? Are they getting soft on the track? Have you done everything to maximize your present system. There is no way to really improve the system without spending major bucks. I thought I needed to improve the system in my 85, luckily my mechanic talked me out of it at the time. As I got better all of a sudden my brakes were just fine.
Just make sure you really need the upgrade. Stock system is certainly fine on the street, and many find them adequate for careful track use.
See you at the track

I've gone through severaal iterations of brakes, currently 993RS are on the car.

Most any complete kit, be it Big Red, GTP, GTPL, 930 will run ~low$3k, you might be able to piece together a budget 993 setup for considerably less at the expense of a lot of leg work.

Thanks for the tips. Yeah the brakes get a little soft but not too bad. I rebuilt the front calipers, installed new rotors, new ss lines, and Hawk hp+ pads. One of the bleading screws was leaking so I had to get new ones. Last but not least the fluid has been replaced a few times and system gets bled before each outing.
With all that my brakes don't come close to a friend's turbo brakes. There is no doubt I can improve my driving and I lost about 15lbs or so which should improve handling as well It would be great to get brakes with more grab though...
