PPI leakdown & compression results. Opinions?

Just got the results of the leakdown and compression tests done on the 72E Targa I'm looking at.

#1 16% 120psi
#2 20% 120psi
#3 21% 130psi
#4 12% 130psi
#5 11% 125psi
#6 12% 125psi

These were done cold, cranking at approx. 300 rpm, batteries a little weak. Original 2.4, 86K miles, no major work done on engine judging by receipts since original owner. Runs strong and pulls hard to redline, no smoke on startup or when goosed.

Any opinions on these results?

From a novice:

Compression is uniform = GOOD
(I don't know what they should be as far as PSI for that engine)

I thought the leakdown test should be around 8% or lower, so those numbers seem high to me. Also, there is a pretty big spread between cyls#4,5,6 and #1,2,3......

Others will provide more insight I am sure.

The engine should have a full cranking power. Also those #'s are low, Did they give it a full throttle upon cranking?? 10% and lower...

Suggestion.. Drive it around, give some good and high RMP's, go back and redue the leak down.. Maybe he drives it like a turtle, and has build up around valve seats....

These were done cold

I thought that this test should be done warm. Why was it done cold?

IMO, leakdown numbers would be more representative if taken when the engine was warm. Compression numbers look nice and even.

I'd be happy with the numbers, myself...

it does not matter what the compression results are, its a leak down that is more critical..... Last post.. RPM's hahahah

I agree with MobileWrks...Take the car out and bring to full operating temp, and give it a good spirited drive. This should give you realistic leakdown #'s, as it allows the engine to blow any loose carbon deposits out and away from the valves. Have your wrench listen for where leaks are eminating, as this is a telltale indicator of exhaust or intake leaks, and what type of work may be needed.

Thanks for the input, guys. This was a prelim check, since the car's several hours from me. I'll be going there this weekend to drive it and revisit the leakdown.

And I'll be sure to give it some RPM's (or RMP's).

The results are meaningless and inconclusive!

Engine is supposed to be fully warmed up, battery is supposed to be fully charged!

And, without a note indicating where leakage was heard on the bad cylinders, i.e., at intake snorkel, exhaust pipe, or breather tube at oil filler ... the results are useles!
