CIS Testing - How does this work?
I purchased the CIS guage to test the warm and cold pressures. Instructions state how to hook it up and to test the system with the engine not running.
I guess I'm missing something here. How do you test fuel pressure in a system that is not running? Wouldn't running the fuel pumps with the engine off risk flooding the cylinders? Yes, I need to read up more but I'm tired of wasting time on this one. You all have done this many times. Please clue me in. The CIS problem? Normal hard cold start issue followed by lean condition off boost. I figure WUR bi-metal spring as the culprit. Thanks.

I dont think the injectors fire unless the sensor plate moves. They might drip a little. I just ran the pump for 40 secs or so to get the pressure to stabilize and then shut it off. When it was time to do the other test it fired right up so I dont think it flooded too much....might be different on a turbo.

I should be able to stop by this weekend. The car drives just fine, starting it is the problem. I'll give you a call or e-mail. You're right that the injectors should only fire when the plate is pushed down (turbos push down, N/A cars push up). I was thinking that constant pressure from the fuel system might force the issue, running both fuel pumps with the engine off just doesn't sound like a good idea.
