How Should I Fix This? (Pic)

I cheated some months ago and replaced the shagged adjusting bolt on my left front TB with a bolt that appears to have been too long. The other night I struck something on the road...

How should I tackle this?

John if the metal that the bolt passes through is completely broke out then you should just be able to pull the torsion bar cap off with the bolt. If not, use a dremel tool to cut off the top of the bolt then remove the cap. The broken out piece can be rewelded and then redrill the hole. Shouldn't be too big of a deal to take care of.

Cool. I'm thinking now's the time to switch to an aluminium cross member, is it a straight "bolt up" fit?

Yes I think it is, John. I had a little off-road excursion one day, and the botl tried to escape. The hole broke out (aluminum crossmember) and was barely engaging the steel button on the top. Anyway, I had the crossmember repaired by a welder who did a nice job. Yeah, I think the Al crossmember upgrade is a bolt-on-and-go operation.
