9&11X15 Fuchs tires help

I just got a great set of the rare dogs. 73 RSR Fuchs.
I know, I know, you can't find too many options for the 11's anymore. What I want to know is has anyone had any luck running a 245/50 or even a 265/50 on the 11? Pix would be great if you have done this. Advice would be nice too if you have tried it and it just doesn't work. I have seen were the 345/35's don't clear on turbo flares and thought with a smaller tire like the 245/50 streched on it, fitment on a lowered car might be a built in bonus.
Please any help here would be great. As some of you know, I sell everything I own, but I am so excited about these icon wheels, I want to find a way to make them work! Included is a picture of one of the 11's how I brought them home today with a monster truck tire, 295/50 (not even close). Thanks in advance.

335/35's should fit under turbo flares. I have used them with 15" x 11" on my 79 930 in the past. I think they may be hard to find now unless they started making them again. Lamborghini Countach uses the same rears.

Pirelli has re-introduced the 345/35-15. The old P7 has now been replaced by the Assimetrico.

Who in the he!l put 295/50s on a Porsche?

245/50s would be 100mm too small. That's a bunch.

I've got plenty on pictures of 345s on my widebody. You need to massage a few things but they will fit. I've run them for over 10 years on the street.

I am thinking about glass flares though, so you won't be able to message them. The 245/50 on an 8" fuch is so bulgy, I thought it might have the mass to strech onto the 11" no?
Man those 345's are mean looking on that car above though, RarlyL8.

Go to the Tirerack site. Look at the "specs" for any tire your interested in. It will tell you the min & max rim width.

Glass flares are just as easy. Trim the inner lip to ~1/8.
Most of the massaging is on the inner wheel well, not the fender. You need to relocate the oil lines down below the bracket and buzz the bolts on the lower suspension plate. Easy job to do.
An 11" wheel is actually 12" wide. 245mm is only 10" wide. The FRONT tires I ran were 255/45-15s on 9x15 wheels. That was a good fit.
If you've got 11" wheels you owe it to yourself to use them to their fullest capacity.
I've got a picture of my wheels off the car. I'll find the disc and post it for you. I actually ran that tire/wheel combo on 2 widebody cars. Both have 930 flares and both were modded the same way for fitment.

I think this is the right disc:

Here's one with 345s on the '78:

I had the same wheels on my '77 for a while. I was running 285/40-15. I bought one of the last set of AVI Intermediates in the free world from a guy in Florida, then sold the wheels not long after. I really liked the look of that setup though.

Thanks Thom,
Is that a pic with the 285/40'S? Could you have lowered the car on them?

Yes, and I did lower it; I took this picture just after I got the wheels mounted up.

OK, if that is a 285/40, than I am thinking a 245/50 Euro T/A might actually work as it is larger than other brand 245/50's. I am buying a set today to give it a try...anyone ever try this? I am thinking esthetically it will strech on there and look much like the 225/50 does on the front 9" wheel. No?

No they don't, but I have found 2 sets semi local that I can try, both paired with 225/50's. So if they do work, I will be set for a while...

Hmmm would they sell the other set? are they NOS.

You say the 245/50s on a 15x8 fuch will be pretty bulgy. This is what I was thiking of doing. But the darn Dunlops are expensive and I hear sort of a mediocre tire. At least the BFGs were an inexpensive tire. You advise against it?

245/50-15 is 9.6" wide with 4.8" of sidewall hight. An 8" rim is really 9" wide. This tire should fit just fine on that rim.

Thom I can't beleive what your car looks like before and after all the mods you've done. Wow.

A 285/40-15 is 11.2" wide with 4.5" of sidewall hight.
A 345/35-15 is 13.6" wide with 4.75" of sidewall hight.

Those were the tire sizes I first ran on my car. The 285 was in the FRONT on a 9x15 Fuch. It did bulge a bit for my taste so I switched to a 255/45-15. Perfect.
The 285 will have plenty of room in an unmodified wheelwell. The 345 is max but will definitely work. A 245 would be lost in there. If you can get it on the 11" rim it will probably look funny and expose your expensive rim to easy curb damage.

Go with Pirelli 345/35-15s and 225/50-15s. That combo has been done a zillion times. Looks killer.

you can buy the complete michelin TB series now. here is a pic of one of mine on my 11x15. its a 26-61-15 which is a 295/40/15. there is a 29-61-15 which will give you a 335/35/15 but if you want to be correct on the origonal tyre size then the 26 is the best choice. I did try the 29 but it buldged off the rim too much. (imo)

click here for a list of all the sizes and applications. they aren't cheap but they are the best range of period correct tyres for wide 15's on the market and their performance is superb. they are a street legal tarmac rally tyre. they are also making them in different compounds too for better longevity on the street.

hope this helps,

Andy

P.S. let me know if you have trouble finding a stockist and ill try and help.

Derek, what version of 911 are these going on and what are your plans to flare the fenders? Turbo, RSR, ST? How old are the Euro T/A's you're considering? Do these tires have a "shelf life?" Just curious.

Cool stuff. Post pics, too!
