Another RSR Clone Project - Update 9
Well it's been a while since I posted a progress update. I've spent most of the time since the last update on the wiring and electricals in the luggage compartment and interior. The luggage compartment is mostly complete including the fuel cell. Today I reinstalled the door window mechanisms and door seals. I'll be installing the RSR door panels next. Then it will be on to the engine reassembly.
Here's a few pics of the progress. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mounting the headlights and turn signals in the fiberglass fenders was a challenge. I modified the T/S bucket by cutting it in half to clear the inside of the fender and battery box. I then mounted the bucket inside the fender and the T/S lens outside the fender in a kind of sandwich arrangement. Mounting the H4's was also not straight forward. I followed the lead of Chuck Moreland and others who glassed a tab inside the botton of the headlight bucket. I also used the zip tie saftey strap approach recommended by Jack Olsen. ![]() I've modeled the trunk compartment after the original RSR photos I have in my archives. ![]() ![]() ![]() The interior is pretty spartan but again modeled to resemble the original RSR. I'm using the 930S steering wheel, the Wevo shifter and Recaro PP seats. I still have to fabricate a radio delete plate. ![]() ![]() This week I should be getting the 16" RSR style wheels mounted onto my 275 and 245 Hoosiers. Roger Krause grooved the tires for me using a vintage tread pattern. I'll post pics when they're mounted and the car can be rolled into my driveway. I'm still hoping to have the car ready for Hershey. The engine reassembly and shakedown are still ahead. I'm spending every spare minute working on the car. |

you always have the best updates, I love every single one of 'em because you can actually see the car coming together, it's not like "update #397, I mounted the shift knob". Anyway, she's coming along very nicely

Tom:
Are all the quarters fiberglass? Did you go this route because of weight? Regards, J.P. |

The front fenders and rear flares are fiberglass. It's not the weight issue but rather the unavailability of RSR fender flares in steel.

Tom:
Does Jim allow you to work on the car by yourself or on days the rest of the shop is closed to the public? J.P. |

The car is at my house in my garage. Jim Newton (Auto Associates) picked up the stripped shell at my house and returned it to me after the body, fabrication and paint work were complete. I did no work on the car while it was at Auto Associates.

Every time I see one of Jim Newton's cars I am awestruck.
