Price check on Aisle 993 Please!!

The following is the car I am about to pull the trigger, and just wanted to get an idea from you on the price.

1995 993 Tip, which is what I want, so leave the bashing in the closet.

60,000 Miles

241 Shorter shifting travel - "This is wierd since it is a Tip"
249 Automatic transmission
331 AM/FM Cassette w/2 door speakers
398 Left outside mirror - electric - plain [Prior to 1996]
398 17 " 5-Spoke Wheels (P205/50ZR17 front, P225/40ZR17 rear) [1996]
437 Comfort seat left
438 Comfort seat right
454 Automatic speed control
650 Sunroof
939 Soft leather rear
982 Supple Leather Seats/Trim

The owner put on the Turbo Twist 18's, with new Dunlop 9000 with less and 1,000 miles on them. He put in the wood trim, and sport steering wheel to match, also has original. He also put on a OEM Turbo bumper. The engine was re-sealed 3 years ago, and aftermarket cam put in the car.

The big concern is the rust at the bottom of the windshield. I know it is on one side, and will have the others checked at the PPI.

Thanks for your help.

Michael

1995 poor $23,340. excellent $35,525 , split the difference, deduct for engine being opened, (why this just for cam?) rust, tiptronic (big deduction!) I would not go above $30k and be more interested the closer it is below $25k.

Rust is almost impossible on these cars unless something has previously disturbed the galvanizing -- and that usually means significant prior body repair.

If the car is super clean, and there is no hint of bodywork, $25.5-26K.

But the front bumper cover replacement implies to me that the car was likely hit...

Rust is very common on all 993 under the windshield rubber, water gets in there, and has no where to go, there is a TSB from Porsche, and lots of people have had there repairs done by Porsche under the 10 year warranty.

The car wasn't hit, the owner wanted to make it look like a Turbo. I checked the Carfax and it was clean, and my wrench has been working on the car for the last four years.

993 windshields are the biggest complaint area of the car. The glass/gasket moves in the opening & squeaks. Dealers have tried all kinds of solutions and I think silicone lube is the preferred choice.

As for water sitting in the window channel, it has to go through paint, undercoating and a couple of layers of plating to get to the steel, so I think it usually has to have some assistance to start. I've never seen one rust there.

I got this quote from the rennlist link you provided:

"After 6 months on my request (and 2 additional calls to Customer Commitment to add to my desciption above) I received a letter from the Zone Rep yesterday saying they will not stand behind the problem, so I am on my own to get this fixed. I'm pretty sure the cost will be neighborhood $2000, "

Doesn't sound like its something they are quick to jump on. I, personally would hesitate to buy a 911 that is 25 years old with rust. To consider one that is 10 years old and showing signs would make me look elsewhere, no matter what arguments are made that this is "typical".

Thanks guy's

The owner currently is asking 32.5 in his advertising source. He made the comment he would fix anything that came up in a PPI.

We haven't talk price at all, and the first person that brings it up, looses in my world, so we will get a PPI and go from there.

THanks

We

By reading the posts and putting two and two together, it seems evident to me what the problem is: water will always be there under the seal, and by itself is really not a problem. The windshield moves in its opening, and that's not much more of a problem.

When dirt gets in there, it changes everything: abrasive in a solution being scrubbed back and forth will wear through the paint and expose the galvanizing and allow corrosion to start. Most of the time, it's not iron oxide, but oxidized zinc that expands and lifts the paint, but ultimately good old conventional rust can form.

I've never seen this on a car later than 1989, but that particular car was from Chicago, and I mostly see California cars.

Make sure the wiring harness update has been performed. $32K is too high. Nice car though.

18"s on a "95 is not good. there were many problems with rear windows blowing out due to the stiffer ride. Factory does not reccommend larger than 17" wheels.

I also am looking for a good 993 with a tip (for my wife). I think around $25K for this one.

glenndeweirdt,

I understand that in the TSB they said there was a fix for putting on the 18s.

The car is already getting bids on ebay for 28K so I know the seller isn't going to let it go for 25K.
