911s ignition problem 2.7L

I am new to this board. had a quick question. i have a 76 911s and i was changing the coil on it with one from msd. after i replaced it i saw arching from near the + and _ terminals of the coil, then nothing. i have no power to the + terminal. all fuses are good. power going to the ignition box from the distributer seems fine but nothing coming out to the + terminal. did i fry the ignition box or cd box. and if so, by installing msd ignition system will it bypass the cd box.

Do a search on cdi ignition before you go any further . And by all means DO NOT put 12 volts to your coil . The cdi system is very different so forget all that you know about point triggered ignition . It wont help you . And to answer one question . You will not have 12 volts at the coil . Actually its not even a coil (by standard terms). This board has all the answers you will need by using the search option (upper top right on this page) . Welcome to the board

The MSD system will not use the old cd, it will replace it entirely. I went MSD and will not go back to a CD system

So, why were you changing the coil???

Since you don't understand how the CDI system works ... I suggest you read the Bosch CDI Testing document in the following thread:

Perma-tune CD or Bosch CD?

Good luck!

ignition problem

i was replacing the ignition wires and saw the the coil was corroded badly, where the coil wire plugs in and the a and b terminals were rusted bad. car started staling and i had a feeling it was a weak spark.

now if i replace the cd unit with msd. do i have to use 6a, 6alor any msd?and do i have to replace the points on the distributer with a electronic unit?

thanks alot for the help guys. i am learning alot here.
