i have decided to resurrect this thread wth my progress. more to come.

You sure you want to repaint that thing? looks pretty shiny.

rennch 05-26-2006 01:51 PM

Trust me...it looks FAR better in the pictures than in real life. :)

HawgRyder 05-26-2006 02:32 PM

Emptyo....
I have the same exhaust on my 69S...very loud!!
It is a Monza unit....mine was new, came with the car, but never installed.
The idle is sort of lame sounding...too VW for my taste...but evens out nicely about 2500 rpm.
I would save all the pieces you remove and store them carefully.
You never know what someone will ask for in the future, or you will need.
Good luck on the project.
Bob

Just a quick update...

She started today! Ran like a champ. First time in a year she's been going. Turns out I accidentally sold my shift coupler with my 72, so I don't have a way to pull 'er out of the garage. Drat!

Here's a partial list of what's going on with this thing. This is going to be an RS/Rgruppe conversion that will primarily be used for SCCA autocross. It's had some rust issues in the front end and the rockers. I took care of the front end. you can see the thread on the gas tank support here:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/284390-documentation-gas-tank-support-replacement-69-911t-pics.html

3.0 transplant into a stock 69T.
7:3:1 Transmission from a 72.
Late model (with baffles) Gas tank and Oil Tank.

All kinds of fun suspension goodies: Revalved Bilstiens (for now), Elephant monoballs and camber plates, sway away springplates, SMARTracing swaybars, 21/27 Torsions, and gigantor 17X8.5 F, 17X10R aluminum wheels.

RS bodykit, RS Flares...not sure on the ducktail yet. Oil cooler, race seats, and a bunch of other trick items.

So...that's the deal for now. I'm enjoying it, but am ready to be done!

Here are some of the fun suspension goodies:

A couple updated shots:

A quick "before and during". After is going to be Mexico Blue. My suspension components keep arriving by the day...

I haven't updated with some of the progress...here are a slew of pics of rust repair, POR-15, etc...

I'm off to bolt on the new front end today, if I can remove the broken torsion bar adjusting bolt. Ugh...

rennch 09-01-2006 03:46 PM

I need to post some new pics...I'm making more progress!!!

rennch 09-22-2006 04:00 PM

Ok, here's the latest.

The suspension is installed. I had a horrible *CLUNK* happening in the rear, but it turned out to be a loose shock.

I need to install the new rockers, weld on the flares, then she's ready for paint! I did a quick rattle can job on the front bumper and the ducktail, just so I didn't have to see the white anymore. :)

I'm hedging between Mexico Blue and Viper Green. We'll see!

Starting to look good! Gonna need some wider wheels in the rear to fill out those flares. Looking for 8's?

What's the second badge on the grill?

ianc

rennch 09-22-2006 04:49 PM

Hey ian,

Yes..no doubt. I'm looking for a set of 9's maybe for the street. The track gets 8.5 and 10's!

The second badge is "Rocky Mountain PCA"

}{arlequin 09-22-2006 04:52 PM

nice job. you're definitely seeing the light at the end of the tunnel..

rennch 09-22-2006 05:35 PM

Thanks Dave. I'm trying to decide if I want to go with an ST look and ditch the ducktail, or keep it. I've also got a couple of pretty good oil leaks. But...it's driving really well, and the new suspension feels great.

rennch 09-28-2006 04:59 PM

At the moment, I'm looking at Mexico blue and NO ducktail. There's something cool about those lines. I'm going to powdercoat the wheels solid black, like my buddy's JJ's car here in Boulder:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1159487858.jpg

(Forgive the advertising..I've been working with a fellow Pelicanite on his company logo, and I wanted to show it on a race car)

I love the look of the solid black wheels...very classic porsche racer.

Since this is documenting the entire trip from field to Cafe' Racer, I thought I'd include this.

My weekend was great, up until around 5 PM last night. My buddy and I were driving up sugarloaf (he was ahead of me in his car) to a mutual friend's house. We took the first big left (heading north) and were faced with a full size pickup truck, fully in our lane. JJ just missed the truck, and I braked, swerved to miss JJ, and went over the edge of the mountain. I was very lucky to have a tree stop me about 15 feet down, otherwise we likely wouldn't be having this conversation.

I'm fine...the car is banged up, but will hopefully be ok. I'm taking it to the Porsche shop in a few minutes.

I hope it's less damaged than what you're expecting. After all your hard work making it into a cool cafe racer, and going through that scary shunt, you deserve some good news. I'll keep my fingers crossed. :)

rennch 10-02-2006 09:48 AM

Thanks. I'm off to get it sorted out now.
