I've had some festering thoughts on winter projects. My black '88 is pretty much stock, but I'm looking to make some changes.
I'm thinking that Ruf look bumpers (per Souk's Ultimate Ruf thread) and a ducktail would be a nice move and not be too tacky. Maybe the red Carrera script on the side? Carrera 3.2 script on the tail? Any pictures floating out there of later cars with this bumper/tail combination? I seem to recall seeing this, but couldnt find the pic. Thanks! Bernie

This is pretty:
I was going to do the Ruf but I thought the IROC front would be better at the track. I'll post pics when I get my car back - IROC with Ducktail and Carrera script (White and black) Last edited by Ho Hum 74; 09-04-2003 at 11:11 AM.. |

That is pretty close to what I plan on for my car, if I keep it. I agree, it looks awesome.

Isn't it a 'beaut? I loved it but had real difficulty believing that the Ruf bumper (this one is slightly different - check the brake cooling ducts) would be as effective as the IROC. IROC rear is a little cleaner than the Ruf one.
Thoughts? Tristan |

Yep, that car is a beaut! That bumper is now available through BW at the group price...ends 9/30/03.
Bernie, if you do the CTR bumpers with a ducktail, you must remove the rockers and lower the car to an insane Eric Mokena ride height! Do it! A black one like that pictured above would be sooo nice! |

How about this?
enough cooling for you, Tristan? |

Souk,
Yes, but it's not the cooling I was concerned with. It seemed to me that the IROC front would produce more downforce. I guess I'm semi-qualified to speculate on the subject because of my aerospace engineering background...but who knows. I think you have to attach the Ruf splitter to the bottom of this bumper to get the real effect. Tristan Last edited by Ho Hum 74; 09-04-2003 at 11:55 AM.. |

LOL! Talk about a Freudina slip...there is a guy a desk away from me that lives in Mokena...use to be a town trustee..haha...
OK..I like the loud mouth Irishman better than the crazy twin dogs. No! Not that downforce thing again!

Souk,
You have a VERY similar car to me. I have a white 74 with 2.7 MFI. Were you at Road America this weekend? Cheers, Tristan |

No Tristan, I was not at RA this past weekend. I've heard that the DE portion of that RA weekend is pretty limited, so I'll wait until next May for the TRAC-RA DE. I'll be at Blackhawk for Ocktober Fest. There should be a good gathering of Pelicans from the West Burbs at that event. You should go!
A 2.7 MFI..hmm ..sounds like a fund car. |

Ho Hum and Souk - just to be certain, the bumpers on your cars are Ruf style, right? Not IROC?
If so, where did you get them? And can the rear Ruf style bumpers be adapted to the rear of a non-flared car? Do either of you have photos of the rear bumper on your cars? Thanks.

dd: I don't have the bumpers on my car, but I am very familiar with them..sigh!
The bumpers can be had from a number of vendors, but the one with the cooling ducts instead of the light recesses are only available from BW Motorsport. Brad made them as a result of the "Ultimate Ruf" thread and our group buy. He spent some time makeing the mold and is now offering the bumper at the group buy price. The picture I posted in this thread is a BW part (the first one) that "iapilot" Brian put on his car before he painted it. There are more pictures in the other Ruf thread on this page or the second one. Or search "Ruf Update." During my group buy negotiations, I was not able to find a CTR rear bumper for a narrow body car, but I seem to recall at least one vendor who told me the regular (SC/Carrera) bumper can be notched and messages to fit a narrow body car. I'm sure it's possible and not too difficult if you've ever worked with f-glass before. I was ready for the challenge, but my palns have changed. Tristan: Have fun and be safe at Grattan...I would love to run there one day. "Fund"...I'm full of Fruedian slips today...you are right..they should be FUND cars. |

Yes! that top picture was the one i remembered. I think thats pretty cool without being EBAY tacky.
Ok, so if I do the CTR bumpers, the ducktail and then RS interior, RS door panels, SRD's, euro cat, Wong chip.... Do I get to Put a "Carrera 3.2 RRSL" Sticker on the tail ('R'uf 'RS' 'L'ook)?

Tristan, Who owns the turquoise car at the top of page? It would seem to have the latest BW Motorsports RUF bumper w/ cooling ducts, but I thought that BW's fronts used turn sig and reflector combo, as opposed to just turn sig?

Thanks.

Dennis, that first car looks like it has a real RUF bumper. That picture was first seen in the Ultimate Ruf thread. BW is the only company I know of that makes the ducted CTR bumper..well unless you want to pay big bucks to Alois. That second picture (Brian's car) IS the BW bumper patterned after the later CTR bumper. BW sells two versions of the CTR front bumper for the 74-89 cars. He also is the only one I know of that has a turbo version of the CTR bumpers made with a ready turbo as the basis for the mold.
Brad does not have a web site. I don't have his number in memory, but if you search for BW or look in the Ultimate Ruf thread, you'll find it. |

BW Motorsports # is (618) 622-0524, speak to Brad.
Souk, thanks for the info. I know that you put a lot of work into the group buy thing. Am I right about the turn sig/reflector? One of the reasons that I like the BW version is because he utilises both, which looks better, IMO.
