Another headlight switch problem

1986 carrera
I lost all headlights this evening on my drive home. My stalk/turn signal switch has been out for some time for the high beam. When you push the stalk forward, no high beam lights. But when you pull the stalk I get high beam lights. With the stalk in the main/middle position, I had low beam headlights.

Tonight, without thinking I pushed the stalk and was reminded again that I don't have high beam headlights. When I returned the stalk to the middle position.... no headlights...none....

I had to drive the rest of the way home while pulling on the stalk switch and holding it there. Good think I was only about 4 blocks from home.

I read lots of threads.. seems light I can rule out fuses and should focus on the stalk switch as the key problem and either try and clean it or replace it.

I should also consider installing the marcus s... relay.

Correct?

The stalk switch is wired thru the headlight switch. If the stalk switch is bad, it certainly might be the cause of your low beam problem. Replace the stalk switch, install the Sucro relays, and you'll be good to go.

Very common issue. You may be able to fix the switch. I fixed mine ('85 Carrera) with a little twist with needle nose pliers.
Disassembly isn't too tough. Disconnect your battery first.
Higher wattage headlights will need the relays. The contacts weren't designed for higher power.
All the info may be in Waynes book. I'm not sure though.

I'd replace the stalk sw, install relays, and forget about it for 20-30yrs.

Thank you. Just wanted to make sure that I did not overlook anything obvious.
