the fan is good for low speeds (traffic or steeper hills)
note that the 993 has been eliminated as a contender in another current thread also, Bruce Anderson discusses coolers in his book

It all depends, what type of driving will you be doing? The 28 tube cooler is pretty good, and an easy install. The carrera cooler with a fan is pretty good too, but a little more involved in the install, slightly. Both work great. I would not use the late carrera cooler without a fan though.

I always thought this was the pecking order of desirability for my SC.. jmo
least to best -trombone -row brass cooler -carrera cooler -'widemouth' carrera cooler from Elephant I run the widemouth carrera cooler on my car w/o a fan and am very happy with the temps I see. And I run my car very hard during the hot summers. |

The only problem with carrera finned coolers is they need airflow, hence the fan install. If you are not in stop and go traffic very oftedm then it is no problem to not have a fan. The tube cooler is not as dependant on airflow.

Very timely as I am in the process of adding a cooler and was planning to use a front cooler...seems like the carrera cooler with a fan would be better in stop-n-go traffic (which I see every day on I-15)...esp in the summer with the ac on.

Although availability of the 28 row cooler is limited, I think it wins out for a road car due to price and ease of installation.
On the expressway in 80 degree heat it dropped my temp by approximately 30-40 degrees.

Its just that i have the option to buy either a Carrera or 28 row for a very good price today
My 911 is a street car, currently my daily driver, it does see traffic occasionally (I try to avoid it) |

I think either will be great for you. I guess it comes down to money and what you will be happy with. Anything is better than that trombone cooler, IMO.

Buy the Carrera cooler. Forget the brass, and forget the fan unless you're continually in stop-and-go traffic. Buy that little air scoop that Pelican sells for additional air. TRE has a technique of funneling air through the right-side headlight, but you'll have to call Dave to find out what that's all about.

I have the cooler scoop already installed.
I just scored a cleaned and pressure tested Carrera cooler with shroud and fan for $500.. |

ouch, i may just wait and see if something magical happens at the partheaven swapmeet.
jared, i did the install once. if you can find the factory wire harness for the fan, it is plug and go. really easy.
