Ligtening the SC, remove undercoating?
I was thi9nking fo ways to lighten up the SC a bit, and it occured to me that the undercoating i had to remove to mount the Carrera cooler was REALLY thick..
There's got to be quite a few pounds of this stuff all over the car, any one have any suggestions for stripping all this stuff off? Is it actually worth doing? |

In all there is about 40lbs of undercoating sealer stuff on the car.
I stripped mine to bare metal, and collected all the goo in a box and weighed it when I was done.. It is alot of work though

I'm taking mine out a little at a time.
![]() When I put new carpet in, some came out. When I put my roll bar in, more came out. I've never been excited about stripping it all, as there are many posts here about what a job it turns out to be.

I wouldn't bother on a street car unless you are going to go all out with the lightening campaign and remove say 250 lbs.

It's a piece of cake. I was wasting time with a heat gun and scraper. Got tired of that Sh_T and started looking around the internet for a better way. Found this web site: http://www.svend.net/mustang/ww73/ww73.html
I took a chance and bought the Peel away 7. Oh-my-God, that stuff is amazing. Simply put it on wait 24hrs and the undercoating comes off like butter. Well a small amount of elbo grease, but not much. Finish off with a cordless drill and wire brush then Por 15. Boom, your done. Fumes not very bad at all either. Toughest part is painting the Por 15 on upside down. Good luck

salt is the imp. thing re your location
you are removing wt. from the least harmful place on the car... Do the stuff advised on your Rennlist post first...

I'd rather remove useless interior bits - like seats - if you haven't already done so, Jared.

Jared:
My SC weighs 2600 lb. If I spent the necessary time on my back with harsh chemicals, a scraper and wire brushes, and lots of clean up time, I could probably get down to ....2560 lb. Good luck Pat
