value for this 964 turbo please
I just looked at this 964 3.3 turbo.
Yr 1991 Miles 42K 1 bar boost spring Kinesis 18" wheels exhaust has been "chopped"- maybe experts can tell what has been removed/replaced? Can you give your honest opinion of value and cost to rectify any proplems listed- Thanks Faults: Needs: new clutch New Windcreen repair/new headliner repair/new rear Kinesis- curbed and cracked Poss. replace exhaust and reconnect O2 sensor? Body work- paint seems okay except for flaking around rear of trubo tail. Plastic front fender has crack- repairable? side mouldings are loose or on drivers side 'wavey?' A/C does not run cool Car is damp inside on carpets and has not been garaged Leather seats were surprisingly good, but very dry leather screaming for maintenance as was all of car! Car is generally shabby state and does not look cared for! Not a good sign normnally I know. Owner is short of cash - reason for sale Before I concider a professional PPI I thought I would run this by the PP experts! ![]() Thanks for any help ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() pg[/img]

I'm far from an expert but i would say run. Looks like the car has been neglected. I would be scared of it. The people I know who don't take care of their car cosmetically also ignore the mechanical things as well. My .02

Car is being offered cheap but I know where you are coming from!
Here are a couple more pics ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I think I could get the car for around $30K or maybe a little less! - which is why I am researching the cost for the major stuff.

I have a 91 and have seen better 964 turbos go for 30K. Once you start replacing the front spolier and other body work you are already up to the going price. The clutch and windshield puts you in the ball park of much nicer ones. Unless you are paying cash for that car a banker will not even consider it. That car sure looks like it has more than 40K on it or 40K by a couple of valet drivers

Gut feeling, let this one go. Not sure but can't you find a clean 3.3 for
40-50K or less? This one may take many nickels and dimes to bring back. |

Thanks,
I was disappointed when I saw it that someone could let a car go so much!. But I figured if the price was right!. I have been looking at some others but they are pre 89 930's and dont benefit from the 964 suspension and tranny and all the other mods which come with that year. I believe the going price for a 42K mile 91 should be +$40K However given the features, I was thinking if I could get it for $28-9K then it might be do able? Maybe I am just trying to talk myself into a bad situation! Thanks for the advice Rgds Ben

From what I've been told there is no such thing as a cheap Turbo....you gotta cough up either when you buy, or when you want to fix it....
Find one that's been care for and you will be much happier. Is there any evidence that it's been maintained other than in recent history..before the owner became short of cash? Unless you can really, really squeeze him pass. You can fix anything except a bad history. Simon

Take the pictures and a list of things to a tech, if you can't have the buyer's inspection done, tally the mess and deduct the costs from the selling price.
I agree with the above statement that there more than likey will be more waiting for you on the inside mechanically that you might not want to hear. It's sad to see that kind of neglect. There are two types of people that typically own Porsche's; those that definitely should and those that definitely should not!! 21k(+/-) ![]() |

I respect and have to agree with all said- it's always tempting- idea of a bargain, but as you said, pay now or later!!
And unfortunately I do not have the resources to work on it myself!. In comparison for value for money, my local car trader has a '99 996 C2 from a dealer (mileage not listed) for $29,995 and a couple of other 996 C2S for $33,995!!!!(probabley old lease cars) I know they are 'water pumpers' but, still value for money!. I will still get the jobs priced up and let the owner know- that way he will kn ow the value of his car and how much he has lost by neglecting it! Maybe a lesson learned! The car was not in a garage, but how much do waterproof car covers or temporary covers/sheds cost!!!! Rgds Ben

This is bizarre, a friend of mine was in Florida this past week looking at some P-cars and had me do a carfax on what I think is this car. His description matches yours. The bottom line - he walked on it. The car had a weird history - about one month into its life it went from being titled in Ohio to getting a salvage title in Missouri. It later got a rebuilt title in Kansas which is what they probably used to get the clean title in Georgia. Although the car my buddy had me check was in Florida the car was still titled in GA. If you're really interested in this car send me your email and I can zip you the carfax in pdf format.
