1983 911SC charging system/voltage regulating sys.
Hi everyone ! ......
Just finished replacing my Porsche 911 SC starter. Wen i disconnected the leads/terminals i forgot to disconnect first the neg. terminal at battery therefore got some sparks. When i finished the job (r&r starter) started the engine and noticed my red light battery symbol remains on. I removed, while the engine running, the negative lead at the batery and the car dies on me. Ck'd voltage and w/out engine running i got on batt 12.24 volts (DC) and w/ engine running 18.22 VDC ! ..... Have no shop manuals and have no idea where to go, some burndt fuse or regulator ...... if anyone has any idea, please illuminate my mind and i'll appreciate ! .... Thanx a lot jetdude |

It sounds like you voltage regulator, on your 83 it is internal there is a lot of check to do but it sound like a VR and one of the checks is if a reading of more than 14.2 volts most likly indicates a faulty VR
