Removing 3rd brake light "stalk"...

What remains when you remove the stalk? Just a wire hole? Or something more sinister?

Anyone done this?

You'll actually be left with three holes. One for the electrical wires in the center, and two on either side where the bolts pass through the decklid to secure the light in place.

Doesn't look worth it then, eh? Unless someone makes a cap for the holes in the same shape as the stalk cross section.

For Atlanta traffic the more the car behind me sees me braking the better.

It would make for a cleaner look though..

Mine is in for a paint job now so that was on the list of things to do. I am going to install the one that goes in the rear window from a later model car. (after I find one)

Can you just go with the interior light? I thought the back window had a fresnel or feature to accomodate the light?

I guess I'll leave the stalk for now. Maybe it's time for a ducktail?

How do folks feel about ducktails and rubber bumpers?

As best as I know, there is nothing special about the rear window to accomodate an interior third brake light. It just mounts on the window (either high or low depending upon your preference.) I installed a high one on my '85 using an '86 brake light. Others have installed an aftermarket LED array. Plenty of info and pictures in the archives.

If you remove that "snorkel" light, send it to me. I'll pay shipping....
