OEM spark plug tool for 911

I recently developed an ignition miss in my 83SC so I decided to replace the distributor cap,rotor and spark plugs as it has been a while since the previous owner had done that. When I purchased this car it had no tool box but after reading many stories on this forum about the importance of some of the tools in the OEM tool pouch I put together my own. I bought various items from here and there and put together a nice tool kit useing pretty much all the OEM stuff. Well today I used the spark plug wrench for the 1st time and what a nice piece of engineering, it only took me 30 minutes to replace all 6 spark plugs. For any of you that have done this job without the tool my hats off to you, it was so easy of a job I said to myself you should not have put off this job. And the best part was for less than $30.00 my ignition miss is gone!! Just thought I would share my experience. Happy wrenching.

You can't beat the factory tool for removing the spark plugs, it is sized just right.

that tool sounded interesting so I spent the last half-hour trying to find the tool on this site. (as a side not, not uncommon. I have a hard time finding things on Wayne's site). Maybe pelican doesn't offer it? Could you tell me where you got the part and the part number.

I actually purchased the spark plug tool used off the Pelican classifieds.Also there are some aftermarket spark plug tools that work well also but I don't recall the manufacturer. Maybe do a search on Pelican for spark plug tool?

The Porsche tool is part no:477.012.203.A . It is a two piece tool. You will also need a 10mm 'L' shaped Allen wrench (sometimes smaller) that is inserted into the end. You can pick up the Allen wrench at any place that sells tools.

Sorry, forgot to mention, you can find the tool at a Porsche wrecking yard like Parts Heaven or order it from any Porsche dealer. A wrecking yard may be unwilling to break up a tool kit though.

Klein 21 is the tool you're after. There are several evolutions. The earlier one was one piece. The SCs Klein 21 had a jointed section with a coil spring over it. Both use an allen wrench to turn them, and both work very well.

I use this for plug changing while my factory supplied Hazet 21 is keeping my original tool kit complete.

The Klein 21 looks like this. The 10mm allen is used to initiate the break loose and for final tighten. The head is knearled for easy finger work.

The home brew alternative is the Kokon 20.6mm Magnetic socket used with a 3/8" universal and short extension. Once you use the magnetic it's really hard to use one with the rubber insert again.

I've looked. Does anything work to replace the worn out internal rubber sleeve that retains the spark plug?

Tim's tool above is what came with my 87. Works extremely well. Kinda forces/encourages you to do the job correctly by making it easy. Hard to over tighten and knurls make it easy to thread in by hand.

I just pucrchased the tool from our host and even though the picture includes the Allen wrench when I received the wrench it didn’t include it. I called the parts specialist said that it should and the warehouse people said it doesn’t and it is NLA. Now i need to look for a Allen wrench, so I can use my $106 recently purchased OEM tool.

Good news is any farm implement supply store sells individual allen wrenches. In the original P-Car tool kit is a nine inch piece of aluminum tubing about 3/8" I.D. Slip that over your new allen wrench for more leverage on stubborn spark plugs. Also work on the longish allen wrench to remove the allen bolt on the forward battery hold down. A two-fer kind deal.

If you paid for the entire spark plug tool (and hex wrench) and it wasn't complete for whatever reason, the seller either owes you what you ordered, an adjustment on your purchase price or a return and full refund.
