dd74 is getting a new motor...

Well, if everything works out and I can sell my '83 3.0 for the right price, I'll purchase a Euro 3.2 I've already sourced from Harald in Germany.

So the question is what can I expect from the 3.2. Yes, I realize it is more powerful, has more torque, weighs about 20# more, and is Motronic. But what is the power like compared to my 3.0? Yes, eventually I'll do the Steve Wong chip and I already have sourced out some SSIs. The Triad exhaust is like a favorite pair of loafers to me - so I'm keeping that.

But the main question is, particularly for those who have jumped from 3.0 to 3.2, what can I expect. And how will a '74 chassis with 19/26 torsions, sport shocks and a 7.31 ring and pinion, react differently from the 193 hp 3.0 I have now to a 231 hp 3.2 I might get if everything works out?

Thanks much in advance for your comments.

- you mean how much? or in terms of 'revability,' percieved torque? etc.? -- I'd say a bit less for the latter. Otherwise, more of everything. Chassis should be fine.

I honestly cannot tell much difference between US market SC and 3.2 motors.

Now the Euro 3.2 is a whole 'nother animal altogether. Put an open exhaust on that bad boy and you'll be bouncing off the rev limiter every day. Strong like bull!

In Soviet Russia, 911 engine swaps YOU

Yes, Randy - thanks for clearing me up on that. Revability and torque are my concerns, and not necessary top end. Can you elaborate a little on the differences?

I haven't driven stock examples much, but since nobody else is posting... the CIS just seems to have more torque (of course, so does a tractor). You crack open the throttle a bit more than it is at low or mid speed and it chugs right up. The DME seems more 'sportscarish' -- a little less torque on initial tipin , but more willing to rev. And the feel confirms the much better flow it has on a flow bench. It has better revability. These are all pretty minor differences BTW....

Dave I've got a 3.2 in my 73 Targa and your welcome to drive it but it has CIS, so I don't know if that helps you much. Does Tysons 3.2 in his 69' have Motronic? Maybr you could swing by TRE.

Euro 3.2 + SSIs + Steve W chip = ~245-250hp (depending on fuel grade etc).

I've driven a similarly equipped Euro (231hp) 3.2 and it hammered.

Matt Holcomb knows the car I'm talking about. Very punchy.

[Edit: This was in an '85 with an 8:31. Your car will fly with a similar motor]

Question for anyone who knows, but didn't all Euro 3.2s have 231 hp?

Dave moving to the darker side eh? Dont worry your not alone, im building pops a fun little (3.6) motor for his car these next few weeks. Tyson does still have the motronic on his but has a slick exhaust setup with a Steve chip in it. Says it revs really nicely and the torque is great.

Everyone is going big now, almost makes me want to take his old 3.0 and keep it 3.0 for my car but the lure of a 3.5 is nagging along with a 3.3 bwahahaha

Dave why are you going with SSI's?

Take Tyson's car for a spin, 7:31, 2250 lbs. I just drove his car tonight with the new exhaust, and what a transformation ... the punch, throttle response, impressive.

I'll do that. What's his "new" exhaust?

I've got an '88 3.2 in my car with 10.3:1 Euro pistons, SSIs, sport Dansk, etc and a SteveW chip. Above 4k rpms, the thing is scary fast in my 2400lb car. The SteveW chip helped low rpm torque and throttle response quite a bit.
